Removing Exchange 2003 server from Exchange 2007 organization
I have a very simple EX07 organization with a single EX07 server. I had to install Exchange 2003MAPI support for a third party application, but when I tried to upgradeex07 to sp1 the environment analyzer said that the ex03 was not sp2. Later on I moved the third party application to a different server and I upgraded it so now it's working with EX07 MAPI support without problem. The problem I have now is that I removed the EX03 server properly by running the uninstall procedure, but EX07 environment analyzer still doesn't let me install EX07 sp1 because it still finds out an installation of EX03 which is not sp2. Can I safely remove the EX03 server with ADSI ? Is there a procedure to do it without affecting the exchange 2007 structure ??? Thanks a lot in advance to everybody.

Hi.I assume that you had followed below article while uninstalling Exchange 2003 server, however you didn't get any problem related to it until now then yes it is safe to remove Exchange 2003 server from AD with ADSIEdit.msc but do NOT delete the Admin Groups due to legacyExchangeDN value. How to Remove the Last Legacy Exchange Server from an Organizationhttp://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb288905.aspxYou can take System State backup to be safer side before deleting it...Amit Tank | MVP - Exchange | MCITP:EMA MCSA:M | http://ExchangeShare.WordPress.com

Thanks a lot for your replay. Well I really didn't follow those steps exactly because my EX03 installation was only a partial installation, I didn't create any MBX o public folder because I installed the Exchange Manager only and then I uninstalled the software by simply running the Exchange uninstall program from control panel. Is there any article that explains exactly how to remove the ex03 server uning ADSI perhaps ? Backing Up the System state is enought to restore the system in case of problems ? Thanks again, Alberto

Hi,You can find the steps to remove Exchange 2003 with help of ADSIEdit.msc in below similar thread...http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/exchangesvrgeneral/thread/c3c11511-65f8-4833-bf4c-f46f41e9ffb4/Yes, system state of DC is enough since you are just removing a stale object entry of Exchange 2003 from the Active Directory with ADSIEdit.mscAmit Tank | MVP - Exchange | MCITP:EMA MCSA:M | http://ExchangeShare.WordPress.com

Ok Amit, I'll follow the instructions: Go to Start, Run and write ADSIEdit.msc and hit OK button. Expand each of the following items: Configuration ContainerCN=Configuration, DC=Domain_Name,DC=comCN=ServicesCN=Microsoft Exchange CN=Your_Organization_NameCN=Administrative GroupsCN=Your_Administrative_Group_Name_Or_Exchange5.5_Site_NameCN=Servers Right-click the Exchange 2003 server object, and then click Delete. Click Yes in every adsiedit dialog box that prompts you to confirm the deletion. After a system state backup, can you confirm that my Exchange 2007 server and organization will not be affected by this deletion at all ? Thanks again, Alberto
