Removed mailbox database as it was still moving mailboxes
Using EMC I removed a mailbox database while it was still moving a few mailboxes to another mailbox database on the same 2010 sp1 server. We are not using DAGs. The
database or the logs were not deleted and still reside in the original location.
Is it possible to reconnect this database?
If a restore is needed there is a complication that needs to be addressed.
The mailboxes effected were moved from a 2003 server to the database (Sales 001) that was removed later that day.
A backup was not performed
between 2003 and 2010.
The exact event flow was as follows:
Using 2010 SP1 EMC to create a move request
Moved mailboxes from 2003 to “SALES 001” DB
Move completed successfully
Later decided not to use “SALES 001” DB
Created new move request
Moved mailboxes from “SALES 001” to “GENERAL 001” on same server
Dismounted “SALES 001” before move was completed
Using EMC, selected “Remove” from the Database Management Tab
A warning window popped up stating that the files needed to be deleted manually
The files WERE NOT deleted
Concerns:
Active Directory last saw the mailboxes functional at Exchange 2010 – Sales 001.
If I perform a restore from tape it is of a 2003 mailbox.
How will AD react to this?
Below is copy of the warning popup:

1. You might be able to get the data back by using the Recovery Database
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd876874.aspx
2. You cannot recover the 2003 database to a 2010 server natively, however, if you want to use a 3rd party product check out Lucid8's DigiScope
http://www.lucid8.com/product/digiscope.asp since it will allow you to open any offline database so that you can Browse, Search, Export to PST, MSG and XML or recover the data directly to an online production
exchange server. (Even works cross platform, i.e. you can open a 2003 EDB and recover to a 2010 production server.

We discovered that the issues were not related to the mailbox database being corrupted but something that was directly related to my user account and/or profile. I had another technician log onto the server and he was able to see all the user mailboxes that
were in the MOVE REQUEST window and he didn’t get the same error that I had. From his viewpoint we were able to see that the data had transferred and completed from my first attempt prior to me opening this support case. He was able to able to remove
the MOVE REQUEST from all the affected mailboxes and the error from my screen went away as well. I attempted the steps that he performed multiple times over the week but they kept failing from my user account. We also checked with multiple end users and no
one reported missing data.
Troy, thanks for your comments. I did download and try your application and it is a nice tool but it wasn't needed in the end.
