Remove dead Exchange Server from Org
HiWe are running Exchange 2003/2007 mixed mode. A 2007 mailbox server, mailbox1, was built but - due to a hardware failure - died. We removed the entry from DNS etc as we thought we would just build mailbox2 and so on.However, I can now see mailbox1 is still in the Exchange org even though it no longer exists (via ESM). Does anyone know how I can remove it from the org? I assume it needs to be removed from the actual AD database, but I am unsure of the exact steps? Also -exactly what part of AD would I be modifying (schema, domain partition etc) to remove the server?Secondly, what is the correct way to remove a dead server? Rebuild with the same name etc in disaster recovery mode, and then uninstall Exchange?Thirdly, what is the most risk-free way to remove this entry now? Remove via ADSIEdit or rebuild a server and then uninstall Exchange from it?Thanks.

Proper and non-risky way is toremove properly from Add/Remove Program since manual remove is not supported as like Exchange 2003. How to remove Exchange 2007 from a computer http://support.microsoft.com/kb/927464 -==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==- Exchange 2007 is removed differently from earlier versions of Exchange Server. You cannot manually remove Exchange 2007 from a computer. The only supported ways to remove Exchange 2007 are to use Add or Remove Programs or to use the Setup program on the Exchange 2007 CD to remove Exchange 2007 and to remove the Exchange 2007 object from Active Directory. -==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==- You can recover Exchange 2007 dead server with /RecoverServer setup switch on temporary server and remove it porperly from Add/Remove Program. Thanks! Out of interest, if I right click the server in ESM, there is the option of "Remove Server"...what does this do?

Thanks! Out of interest, if I right click the server in ESM, there is the option of "Remove Server"...what does this do? That shouldn't be supported either because ESM of 2003 doesn't understand Exchange 2007 server object fully (and EMC of 2007 don't allow you to remove) andultimatelyit keeps the stale entries at many places. Since it is first Exchange 2007 server I would recover it and remove it properly from Add/Remove program after following below guide...
