Remove all addresses at Global Address List
Hi, This is in regards to the Global Address List which will show all addresses, group and contacts etc in Outlook. We like to hidden this Global Address List from certain users in Outlookand OWA. I have set the security and deny permissions for the usersat the exchange --> system manager --> recipients --> All Global Address Lists. Somehow, it does not work in this way. Is there a solution to this problem? Thanks.

You want to be very careful here. Many other parts of Exchange use the Global Address List. You should remove this address list from all users and create custom address lists for your different user groups, leaving the GAL alone. Hi, I am using Exchange Ent 2003. Using the method from msexchange, it does not work. What i have done is to remove annoymous user, authenticated users and everyone. And then re-add authenticated user with the "list object" right. The global address list still shows all addresses. Please advise.Thanks.

Hi, I would like to confirm the following information. Do you like to hide the GAL on certain user or hide the certain user in GAL? If you want to hide the GAL on certain user, please just remove the Authenticated Users permission in Security tab by using ADSI edit tool. Opened the ADSIEDIT, expand Configuration, expand Services, First Organization, Address List Container, All Global Address List, right click the default global address list, select Properties, in the Security tab, please remove the relevant permission of the Authenticated Users . Please note, we need to uncheck Cache Mode in order to make this function. However, if you need to hide the certain user in GAL, there have two scenarios have to be taken into account. 1)Settings for Online Outlook: a. Create a new GAL with the global filter b. Restrict permissions on the new gal c. Modify Default GAL to exclude users based on custom attribute setting 2)Settings for offline and cached mode (uses OAB) a. Create Address list that uses the filtered GAL query b. Modify Default OAB to use new address list c. Rebuild Address list d. Create new OAB and tell it to use new unfiltered GAL e. Rebuild new OAB f. Modify msExchUseOAB setting to point the distinguishedName of the new unfiltered OAB for users that can see filtered accounts Thanks Allen
