Remove PF store from Exchange 2003 Bridgehead server
Hi We are running in Exchange 2003/2007 mixed mode. We have several 2003 Routing Groups and also the 2007 RG. Within the UK Routing Group, there are only two bridgehead servers left, the mailbox and front end servers were decommisioned some time back. Before I can uninstall Exchange 2003 from these bridgehead (BH) servers, we need to remove any routing group connectors they are members of. However, there are also public folder messages that will be sent to these BH servers since they hold PF stores. How can I safely remove the PF stores to ensure that the servers aren't involved in ANY public folder replications? Or would it be easier to delete the routing group connectors, then move the BH's to another RG so that they could still recv PF replication messages. Once the BH server is in a different RG, we can then uninstall Exchange altogether?

You wont be able remove Exchange on any server until all the replicas on a public folder store are removed. Once all the replicas are removed, you can remove the pf store itself if desired, then remove Exchange ( after removing any connectors as well of course )

As long as there's a public folder store on the machine it's going to participate in public folder hierarchy replication. And if it's also acting as a bridgehead server it may be acting as a "dispatcher" for e-mail sent to public folders. So, start by removing all public folder replicas from the public folder store on the machine. Then delete the public folder store from the server. That'll remove the server from any public folder replication except for the possible transmission of messages from RG to RG. >Or would it be easier to delete the routing group connectors, then move the BH's to another RG so that they could still recv PF replication messages. Once the BH server is in a different RG, we can then uninstall Exchange altogether? Get rid of the public folder replicas first. Then you can remove the RG connectors and then the servers. You won't be able to do any of that with replicas on the servers. --- Rich Matheisen MCSE+I, Exchange MVP --- Rich Matheisen MCSE+I, Exchange MVP
