Removal of Exchange 2007 from 2003 server located on a 2008 server domain
I need to remove exchange 2007 from the server 2003 R2 and installed 2008 R2. Of course, Active directory will also need to be cleaned. I had a problem when WSUS was installed on the 2003 R2/Exchange server. Exchange crashed and WSUS was working fine. I removed WSUS but exchange has never worked since. I would like to install server 2008 R2 and then reinstall exchange server 2007. I have not been able to uninstall exchange from the directions I found on Technet site. I also do not have the disable-mailbox command or many of the other commands that the instructions refer too. My last error was mail box removal failed due to it containing one or more mailboxes. The server does not have the get mailbox command either.

Hi, Do you have other exchange servers installed on your organization? If you only have one exchange server, you can use the following method to manually remove exchange 2007 from AD and then reinstall: Note: All the users' mailboxes database will lost after performing the following steps. 1. On domain controller, open adsiedit.msc 2. Expand to Configuration, CD=Service, right click 'CD=Microsoft Exchange Server' and click Delete. Then try to install server 2008 and then exchange server. It will create a new exchange organization automatically. If there are other exchange 2007 servers, please open Exchange Management console in that exchange server which is working properly and move the mailboxes in the exchange server you want to uninstall to another server. If the move failed, please go to the exchange 2007 machine that you want to uninstall, open services.msc, try to restart the information store service. Hello. The active directory domain controller does not have cn=Exchange server anymore. Now I get an error stating a reboot from a previous installation is pending. Please restart the system and rerun setup. I have completed the reboot domain controller and exchange server without any success. I read the logs but not any help there.

I found some info online and now I can install Exchange and deleted the registry keys. Thanks for your help. Now I can move forward and see if this works so I can deploy it. This server had a fresh install of server 2008 R2 Enterprise today so it beats me how the registry could possibly be a problem. Microsoft should do a better job with their applications and OS's. If you remove the following key: HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\SessionManager\PendingFileRenameOperations
