Remane Username
I have renamed users, ie new name after getting married, etc, I have noticed in the GAL in the email address it is listed as /o=<DomainName>/ou=First administrative Group/cn=Recipients/cn=<username> this last cn= is still showing the previous name, is there a way to rename this, In AD, the all names have been changed and the email addresses, but this is remaining the old name. Running winserv 2003 and exchange 2003 Any ideas wouldbe appreciated.. John

you have some renamed users who has been applied to AD and mailbox, but not o=<DomainName>/ou=First administrative Group/cn=Recipients/cn=xxxxx, right? First of the all, let's see if you rename correctly in ADUC <Right-click the account you want to rename->choose "rename"->change all name> Second, check mailbox's name in ESM, see if it's been changed OK, Now it's the time to change "/cn" attribute please open "ADSI Edit"->"domain"-> DC=xx,DC=yy->OU=zz->Right-click the account you need to modify->choose "properties"->choose "LegacyExchangeDN" and click "Edit" in "Attribute Editor" tab->then you can change "cn" part for user. If your configuration is no problem, the change should appear quickly (I've tested it). A quick way to see the change in GAL is "rebuild" your GAL (It may take some times ) <ESM->Recipient->Offline Address Lists->Right-click your GAL ->choose "rebuild"> Notes: if OL has been working on Exchange Cache mode, it'll check GAL every 24 hrs. you can force a download to happen immediately by click "send/receive" ADSI Edit tool is included when you installed exchange 2k3 support tools from product CD to path: program files\support tools; or you can download from here http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=96a35011-fd83-419d-939b-9a772ea2df90&DisplayLang=en PS: You also need to understand, LegacyExchangeDN will not sync with object's change. That's way we need tools to modify it.

Thank you, I was on the right track, but just didn't drill down far enough to find the users before. I am resyncing my users so I should see these changes soon.

After research again, I found change LegacyExchangeDN attribute will cause a really problem: OAB full download storm. Because, after changed the attribute, users outlook profile would be recreated, so OAB will download again, not just add incremental or differential parts; so the attribute in GAL appeared refreshed. OAB full download wouldnt be a big problem for some small companies, but its really a network disaster for those big enterprises. So, my suggestion is, please do not change the attribute manually
