Registering ifilter for exchange 2010 on win 2008 r2
I am setting up Exchange 2010 on window server 2008 r2 and i am trying to understand the how and why of ifilters. I am follow the instructions listed here: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff354976(EXCHG.80).aspx. Installed the 64 bit fiterpack64bit.exe with no errors. Now looking for keys to verify that it is registered but keys are missing. I am halfway though the manual process and found that there is an .ps1 script that i can run to simplify process. As i follow directions get errors on the .ps1 script and the service restart cmdlet. the error on the .ps1 is : [PS] C:\Users\uwhadmin\Documents\SCRIPTS>.\RegisterMicrosoftFilterPack.ps1 The string starting: At C:\Users\uwhadmin\Documents\SCRIPTS\RegisterMicrosoftFilterPack.ps1:69 char:12 + Write-Host <<<< "Please restart Microsoft Search (Exchange) service from the Services console, or by running stop-s ervice msftesql-Exchange -Force ; start-service MSExchangeSearch is missing the terminator: ". At C:\Users\uwhadmin\Documents\SCRIPTS\RegisterMicrosoftFilterPack.ps1:69 char:176 + Write-Host "Please restart Microsoft Search (Exchange) service from the Services console, or by running stop-service msftesql-Exchange -Force ; start-service MSExchangeSearch <<<< + CategoryInfo : ParserError: (Please restart ...SExchangeSearch:String) [], ParseException + FullyQualifiedErrorId : TerminatorExpectedAtEndOfString and on restarting service i get : Stop-Service : Service 'Microsoft Search (Exchange) (msftesql-Exchange)' cannot be stopped due to the following error: Cannot open msftesql-Exchange service on computer '.'. At line:1 char:13 + Stop-Service <<<< msftesql-Exchange -Force; Start-Service MSExchangeSearch + CategoryInfo : CloseError: (System.ServiceProcess.ServiceController:ServiceController) [Stop-Service], ServiceCommandException + FullyQualifiedErrorId : CouldNotStopService,Microsoft.PowerShell.Commands.StopServiceCommand Start-Service : Service 'Microsoft Exchange Search Indexer (MSExchangeSearch)' cannot be started due to the following e rror: Cannot open MSExchangeSearch service on computer '.'. At line:1 char:53 + Stop-Service msftesql-Exchange -Force; Start-Service <<<< MSExchangeSearch + CategoryInfo : OpenError: (System.ServiceProcess.ServiceController:ServiceController) [Start-Service], ServiceCommandException + FullyQualifiedErrorId : CouldNotStartService,Microsoft.PowerShell.Commands.StartServiceCommand I hate being a noob at this PS shell but i dont get what i am doing wrong. Exactly what is the benefits of ifilters? Can i use it to search exchange logs? Thanks for your help!

Hi, Exchange Search uses IFilters to index text content in different file formats. Using filter pack the following file name extensions are supported: .docm, .docx, .one, .pptm, .pptx, .vdx, .vsd, .vss, .vst, .vsx, .vtx, .xlsb, .xlsm, .xlsx, .zip. Check these http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb125262(EXCHG.140).aspx?v=14.0.702.0&t=exchgf1 http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee732397.aspx Thanks.

Hi ConchoVia, Any updates on your issue? As MYousufAli said, you cannot search Exchange logs(transaction, Message tracking logs... ).Please remember to click Mark as Answer on the post that helps you, and to click Unmark as Answer if a marked post does not actually answer your question. This can be beneficial to other community members reading the thread.
