Redirect mail sent to an outside address to an internal mailbox
Hi all, I've got a user who just joined us from another organization. A lot of people in my company used to email this person when they were with their old company. As a result, a lot of my users have an Outlook autocomplete entry for this person's old email address at the previous employer. So, it seems a lot of people are sending email to the old email address outside our company when they mean to be sending it to the new internal email address of this person. Is there a way to redirect any mail destined for the old external address to the new internal address? Using Exchange 2007. Thanks a lot.

Hi, This can be achieved easily by creating a transport rule with 'Action' as Redirect the message to addresses Regards from www.windowsadmin.info | www.blog.windowsadmin.info

Thanks, I was looking at a transport rule but what would the criteria be? I mean I want to make sure that if an email was sent with multiple recipients, and one of those recipients was the old email address that those other recipients recieve the email as well. In other words, I don't just want the message redirected only to the one mailbox. Hope that makes sense.

* Add the old external email address to the mailbox on the users coming to your company. or * Create a contact with the old external address and a target address of the one set on new mailbox. lasse at humandata dot se, http://anewmessagehasarrived.blogspot.com

* Add the old external email address to the mailbox on the users coming to your company. Ah that was my next thought too. But, if I add an smtp address to the user's mailbox that is a different domain, would I also have to configure an accepted domain for that as well?

No, simply add the address manually. lasse at humandata dot se, http://anewmessagehasarrived.blogspot.com
