Red exclamation point on transaction log icon
Would anyone be able to explain why I have a red exclamation point on my transaction log's icon? I also have orange up arrows on my .edb and .stm database files. From outward appearance I have way too many transaction logs for the amount of email the server is processing. Email is able to send and receive no problem. Exchange Server 2003 2003 Server R2 Standard SP2 Thanks for any input!!!!!!!

Check your application and system event logs for any Exch related errors.

Done that, nothing odd other than the error generated when the System Manager MMC crashed while RDP'd into the server, but it is a good start.

Hi Shaaza,~ Icons would be showing different since Windows icon settings have been setup with respective icons to .log and .edb/.stm file and those can be changed by going to Explorer -> Tools -> Folder Options -> File Types and set the icons of these files to whatever you want in your Windows profile. You are in good shape until you are not getting any error about it in event log.~ About too many transaction logs, do you take backup of Exchange server regularly? Only Full/Incremental backup can purge the transaction log files, otherwise it grows continuously until drive is full and then Exchange stops working. It is recommended to take at least full backup in a week and incremental daily.Backing Up Exchange Server 2003 Databaseshttp://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa998379(EXCHG.65).aspxExchange 2003 Backup and Restore with NTBACKUPhttp://www.msexchange.org/tutorials/Exchange-2003-Backup-Restore-NTBACKUP.htmlAmit Tank | MVP - Exchange | MCITP:EMA MCSA:M | http://ExchangeShare.WordPress.com

Amit, Never occured to me that it may just be an "icon" issue and not an Exchange issue. Checked under registered file types and .log files were the standard notepad icon, but sometimes that doesn't mean much. Made sure a full backup ran last night and my log files dropped from 75+ down to four. Sometimes I get a little antsy when there appears to be errors in Exchange, you know how badly people need their email ;-) Thanks!!!!!
