Recurring meetings showing duplicates of attendee who syncs to several mobile devices
We have a user who's name is showing up multiple times as an attendee in recurring meetings, sometimes 100+ times. This can be seen on his PC which has Outlook 2007, on another PC using Outlook 2010 and in webmail which indicates to me that it is not a local Outlook problem. He syncs his calendar on serveral mobile devices - Android phone, android tablet, iPad and iPhone. He is not the creator of the meetings and he does not have any delegates. Neither opening Outlook with /cleanfreebusy or moving his mailbox to another server resolves the problem. Has anyone seen this happening before? Was a solution found? Thanks

Hi JBurkhart, Do you mean that either opening Outlook with /cleanfreebusy or moving his mailbox to another server resolves the problem? Or, the problem not be resolved? If the issue just happen to the users who have used serveral mobile devices to sync the mailbox, I would suggest that you could remove the devices and do some tests. In my opinion, it maybe caused by the mobile devices. Regards! Just to understand better, is this for one meeting request or for all the meetings in which user is part of? Can you do a test , create a meeting request and add that user and then give a try and just update what are the results , is the same while creating by you as well, why i asked want to make sure that the issue is not with originator side. Yes there could be due to the several mobile devices - Android phone, android tablet, iPad and iPhone in place, so suggest you to clear the things from the devices and the sync it again one by one

I believe that the problem is on just recurring meetings. Some meetings have his name twice, some meetings have his name listed many times. Any recurring meeting I checked in his Calendar had his name at least twice. Other attendees to the same meetings do not see the duplicates of his name. I created a new recurring meeting and invited him. His name was duplicated after he synced his iPad. Syncing it again did not add any more duplicates. When I view the meeting I do not see the duplicates. Also, after he synced either his iPod or his android phone his email address also appeared as an attendee. The email address only is listed when he views the meeting on the mobile devices and not in Outlook(?). He didn't view the meeting on a device in between syncing the iPod or Android so he is not sure when the email address appeared. He also provided an example of a coworker having the same issue on at least one of the same meetings. That person's name is has duplicates when they look at it but not for other people. That person syncs to just an iPhone.

1. Can you give a try with - The OST Integrity Check Tool (Scanost.exe) The OST Integrity Check Tool (Scanost.exe) is installed when you install Outlook and is located at: drive:\Program Files\Common Files\System\MSMAPI\LocaleID folder - where LocaleID is the locale identifier (LCID) for the installation of Microsoft Office. The LCID for English - United States is 1033. If you have problems opening your .ost file, you can use the Inbox Repair tool (Scanpst.exe) to diagnose and repair errors in your .ost file. 2. Just remove the Ipad or disable it from the exchange server side (Exchange Active Sync option) on user properties and then try to create a meeting request and then observe the behaviour. 3. Last but not the least is it possible to delete the user mailbox and then recreate the new one. 4. Wipe the exchnage configuration on Iphone/ipad device and then recreate it.

Hi JBurkuart, Above gave some good suggestion, other tips for you: Please also update the device with the latest version software. Does the duplicated attendee issue happen to the outlook client end or the mobile devices? If the mobile devices, I would also suggest that you could open a ticket from MS, maybe some issue with the mobile devices, that need retrieve more log to analyze the issue. Regards! The problem manifested on different computers (including one that did not have offline folders set up) and through web mail so I don't think it would be a corrupt OST file. I ran scanost.exe and scanpst.exe anyway, but problem appears to remain. We did find that changing the date for a meeting or removing it from the calendar and being re-invited removed the duplicates. We also reconfigured the exchange configuration on the different devices- syncing the iPad still adds a single duplicate to meetings and syncing again has not added any more duplicates. He had issues syncing the calendar to his Android phone but that cleared up after rescheduling meetings (which, at least for now, has cleared up the problem of having 100+ duplicates and decreased his calendar size considerably). Since that is working now we will delay deleting and recreating the mailbox. We did try moving the mailbox from one server to another without effect. At the moment, he only gets one duplicate when he syncs his iPad which he does not consider to be an issue worth persuing.

Duplicates show up in Outlook and on the devices. I will have the user check to make sure the devices have current software- that seems kind of obvious after you brought it up.

A user at our company just came to me with this same problem on Friday. Like your case .. he is not the meeting originator and he syncs with an iPhone and an iPad ... maybe others, I'm not sure. He is showing up in the attendee list thousands of times on both his PC (outlook 2010) and his iPad. It caused his iPad calendar to pretty much be unusable because it's taking up to 5 to 10 minutes to load calendar days with these recurring meetings on them. Thanks.

I have the same issue with outlook 2003. I have an ipad, iphone running active-sync, an iphone running "Good for Enterprise", i use webmail, and outlook on a couple of pc's with windows xp. My problem is always with recurring meetings, and I show up thousands of times as attendees, which locks up my pc completely. My Good app opens the calendar item perfectly, my active sync calendar item won't open at all on that iphone, and webmail opens very slowly and shows all of the thousands of my name as attendee. I think it has something to do with proposing a change to a single meeting, but I can't 100% confirm that. The way that I have figured out how to fix this is to delete ALL copies of the recurring meetings, find the original meeting request from the sender, and reaccept all recurrings. Seems to work for a while. Note that may be a clue - I always accept recurring meetings tentatively, and confirm as we get closer to the actual meeting date - we have meetings booked up to 1 year in advance and I can't commit to all of them. I also have the problem that meetings automatically disappear when I accept them - usually this is when a single instance of the recurring meeting is changed, I accept, and instantly the meeting is off my calendar, and I don't show for my obligations. I put my own placeholders as duplicates on my meetings now to ensure that I don't miss them (painful). I'm not using cached mode on either pc. I'll try some of the steps above, and will post if anything helps. b
