Recreate a deleted public folder
We are using Exchange Server 2000. A public folder was deleted and replaced by a mailbox, which received the public folder's content and address. What we didn't expect is that, in spite of the address transfer, messages would continue to be sent to the deleted folder. This happens when a user answers a message once received from it, or when he types the address in "To" field and Outlook brings it from the cache. The sender gets a NDR saying the adress inexists. I would like to know whether it is possible to recreate the public folder, so that these old addresses point again to an existing destination. This public folder could then simply forward messages to the new mailbox.

Add the old legacyExchangeDN value of the deleted mail-enabled pf as a custom X500 address to the mailbox instead. That way the messages will go directly to the mailbox. You can get the old value by looking at the NDR.
