Recovery Issue (Exchange 2003)
Long story short, We had a hard drive fail which held the databases for Exchange. Our backups were lost as well.I was able to get Exchange 2003 to create a new database files. All clients were using Cached mode when the HDD failed. We were able to recover data using these cached OST files. However, now that we have exchange connecting again through Outlook 2007, we are getting a response able a temporary store, or use old data. While I understand the question this is asking, I am wanting to make these mailboxes perminent ones now. Also, it seems that Cache mode cannot be enabled with temporary mailboxes.Active Directory has no problems whatsoever. I assume that the temporary mailboxes are being created because Exchange cannot find any mailboxes (since we are using new database files). I don't know how to recreate mailboxes for my users without recreating their user accounts in AD.Thanks for any help you guys can provide.Owner, Quilnet Solutions

This is basically because Exchange database reset has happen when you mounted a new blank database and outlook 2003 start showing a dialog box to start in online or offline mode. Now there isn't any possibility to restoreoriginal databaseso you need to reset .ost file of Outlook. Detailed instruction are available in below article... I performed the steps in the article you provided. However, now when I open outlook 2007, it gives me a login dialog. When I type my credentials, it sits for a second then comes back with my credentials again, as if they were wrong. when I click cancel I get "Cannot open your default e-mail folders. Microsoft Exchange is not available. Either there are network problems or the Exchange computer is down for maintenance." Outlook 2007 closes after clicking ok on this dialog. From what I can tell, other users (still running their old OSTs) are having no problems sending and receiving email so I know it's not exchange connectivity issues. Is it possible that somehow my mailbox is in some sort of recovery mode?Owner, Quilnet Solutions

I got it. I must have done something but I went back and recreated the databases again on Exchange 2003 (renamed the priv1 database files) then redid the steps from your link and it worked. I will move the data from the other users OSTs and fix them up.Thank you for your help!Lucky that we didn't lose too much since everyone has their boxes cached. Microsoft really helped us out with this feature!Thank you again.Owner, Quilnet Solutions
