Recovering exchange 2007 server
Guys, In need of some help ASAP if anyone could be so kind. I have a thread open here about a hung SP2 upgrade; http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/exchangesoftwareupdate/thread/398450c2-f367-49dd-b9e6-13e82bf402ab What I need to know is, if I was to end task this update what impact will it have? It has reached the 'Hub Transport Role' section so has done; - Organisation Prep - Preparing Setup -Remove Exchange Files -Preparing Files Can I reboot the server and start up the services, or do I need to reboot, uninstall exchange and reinstall Sp1, or is there another way around this? Thanks Steve

Try to check the setup logs and the event logs for any clue.------Exchange, OCS------

In addition to Dr RPC I would just start over, doing step 1 and continue.. Do the prepare manually so you can follow it and check so it completes successfully Then go for the installationJonas Andersson MCTS: Microsoft Exchange Server 2007/2010 | MCITP: EMA 2007/2010 | MCSE/MCSA Blog: http://www.testlabs.se/blog

Well I cancelled the install and tried to have a look around. It does seem to me that performance monitor is the problem on this server. Whenever I load the mmc and attempt to add counters it freezes, which ties in with the fact that the installation seems to be halting during the configuring performance counter stages. I cancelled the install, disabled services and rebooted. Had a scout and couldn't see any other issues. Started up the exchange services correctly and everything seems to be functioning bar POP3/IMAP4 and Webmail. I presume the webmail is due to the site pages being of a later version than the exchange engine. Does anyone have any ideas as to how to resolve? I can't take the box down today unfourtunatly. I kind of inherited the setup (such a critical app and on only one server with no high availability) With me not setting this server up myself I am tempted to do a fresh installation from scratch, - e.g. exchange 2007 sp3 as an additional server and then migrate all mailboxes over. That way I know the server is configured correctly, etc. Can I have an SP3 server alongside an SP1 server in the same org? *goes away to investigate! Thanks for the responses.

Hi, We need to keep all the Exchange Server roles in the same version. For this issue, please try to check my post in http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/exchangesoftwareupdate/thread/398450c2-f367-49dd-b9e6-13e82bf402ab Besides, I'd like to know if the current exchang can work normally. If yes, please try to run ExBPA and then check the version of each exchange server role. Regards, Xiu

Hi, All the Exchange Server role should in the same version. In this case, we need to apply SP3 to the other Exchange Server to keep all the exchange server role to sp3 version. Regards, Xiu
