Recover only the Recoverable Items Folder
Is there a way to recover only the recoverable items folder for a mailbox in exchange 2010? I have a user that deleted some deleted items 6 months ago. Last week they where in his recoverable items due to that being set to 365 day retention. Well the retention was changed to 30 days before the user recovered all his items to his inbox so they are gone now. I have a backup of the store prior to the retention change and have created a recovery database with it. I don't want to run the whole mailbox for this user as it's 14 GB. Is there a way to recover just the recoverable items folder with the IncludeFolders parameters or something or do I have to do the whole mailbox?

Lucid8's DigiScope http://www.lucid8.com/product/digiscope.asp can open the offline EDB so that you can see all mailboxes, expose the recoverable items folder and allow you to them export to PST, MSG and XML or recover to a live production server. You can get a 30 day demo license that will allow you to open any database so that you can validate the desired information is within and then to export or recover you can purchase a perpetual license for long term use or a project based license for short term use. If you need any help you can contact tech support and they will be happy to assist and will even do a WebEx with you to assist if needed. Troy Werelius www.Lucid8.com

1. Exclude folder that you dont want and it should recover the dumpster, use the excludefolders. http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff829875.aspx The ExcludeDumpster parameter specifies whether to exclude the Recoverable Items folder. You don't have to include a value with this parameter. If you don't specify this parameter, the Recoverable Items folder is copied with the following subfolders: Deletions Versions Purges Sukh

Hello, you can connect mailbox from recovery database: connect his 14GB mailbox to some other user, set single item recovery and retention of deleted items for 365 days, use command Search-Mailbox <restoredmailbox_alias> -SearchDumpsterOnly -TargetMailbox <users_original mailbox alias> -TargetFolder <name_of_folder_where_searched_content_will_be_placed>This works in Exchange 2010 SP1 +. Thanks for the help I was able to move his recoverable items from the recovery DB to a new mailbox user then export all 9700 items to a pst. What a mess this is what you get with poor management of exchange from the start.
