Recover Deleted Items on a public folder recovers the folder with a (recovered) suffix but all subfolders are empty
my collegue deleted a folder accidentally and then cancelled the delete but the folder had disappeared. He then went to outlook folders tab (outlook 2010) chose recover deleted items and highlighted the just deleted folder and clicked the restore button,
this then told him he did not have permission to (becuase he does not have create folder permission in the root of the public folders I expect) I then did it using outlook 2010 and by administrators account however the folder re-appears with a (recovered)
suffix as did all the items in the folder however all its subfolders are empty and going into those subfolders and clicking recover deleted items indicates there are none.
I would very much like to recover the information not least becuase I would like to understand why this happens and to get my information back without having to recover the whole store to the previous day. - we have Exchange 2007 with SP1 and Outlook 2010
help much appreciated.

You might be successful in recovery of the deleted folders with PFAdmin

Thanks Troy,
Unfortunately I have tried PFAdmin and it shows nothing in deleted items for any of the folders since the recover deleted items has been done in outlook and I am very reluctant to purchase a tool when I already have a backup I can restore. My point is I do
not think I should have to as it appears the recover deleted items is the thing which has caused the problem.
I am thinking the only way to resolve this is to build a new server, do a whole restore of my backup of the public store, then once I have the data back play until I have a scenario for delete / recovery that works. If however using the recover deleted items
in outlook will not recover nested folders contents then I also need a way to disable all users from using it on the public folders or this could pain as we use public folders alot.
Any other pointers - I cannot believe I am the only admin to have had this problem.

When your person deleted the items did he do a regular right click delete or a hard SHIFT+DELETE
here is an article
http://searchexchange.techtarget.com/answer/Recovering-a-deleted-Exchange-public-folder-subfolder where another person experienced the same thing you did and short story is unless it was a hard delete you will need to build a recovery server and
then export/import the desired data or use a third party utility that can handle the issue.
