Reconnecting a deleted mailbox in E2K
We are running a Exchange 2007 environment. A mailbox of user A was deleted by error. So the support people created a new empty mailbox for the user, which works fine. The deleted mailbox can be seen under "Disconnected Mailboxes" in EMC. I want to reconnect the deleted mailbox to another dummy account, say user B and export it afterwards. I used the command "Connect-Mailbox -IdentityA -User B -database dbname". I got the error, that the LegacyExchangeDN of the deleted mailbox is already in use by user A with his new mailbox. The value on LegacyExchangeDN must be unique to each userIn E2K3 this was no problem. What can I do in this situation? Thanks for your hintsMichael

connect-mailbox uses the displayname and legacyexchangedn to find a user and mailbox to connect to each other. If this fails you have to manually specify the user to connect the mailbox to.The easiest way of doing this is to use Exchange Management Console and use the connect mailbox wizard.lasse at humandata dot se, http://anewmessagehasarrived.blogspot.com

Hi Michael, I would like to explain that the issue is by design. I would like to explain that in Exchange 2003, we had an option in the Mailbox Recovery Center to resolve conflicts. Referred to in this Technet article: http://technet.microsoft.com/de-de/library/aa996202.aspx Currently, the feature did not make it into Exchange 2007 RTM or Service Pack 1. The workarounds, or, more specifically, our intended way of dealing with the specific scenario: 1) Reconnect the deleted mailbox to the right user initially. This would require a process change on your part such that the admin making the mistake originally does not proceed to create a new, empty mailbox and calls you to reconnect the correct mailbox.2) Export the data from the new mailbox. Disconnect the user from it, delete the new mailbox, purge the new mailbox, reconnect to the original mailbox, import data.3) Modify the LegacyExchangeDN as you have tried (this is the least desirable workaround). Mike
