Rebuilt Exchange 2003 server, outside email being delivered to mailboxes but not downloading in Outlook
We rebuilt our Echange 2003 server, but after bringing it up we noticed emails coming in from outside email addresses were not being received. After further investigation the emails were being delivered to all mailboxes and were visible from OWA; they just weren't downloading in Outlook. We use a mix of Outlook 2003,2007,2010, All of which are having the same problem. After various troubleshooting steps I discovered that I could make the emails download by disabling cached mode, or deleting the OST file. We have a pretty large amount of users and would like to avoid going to each station and deleting the OST file. It seems that the Outlook clients are just looking at the cache even though client will synchronize and send/receive. The rebuilt server still has the same dn and IP and everything. Any help will be greatly appreciated!

How did you rebuild yuor server? if done correctly, GUID of mailboxes in store should be the same and OST file continiue to syncronize. lasse at humandata dot se, http://anewmessagehasarrived.blogspot.com

Using VMware we cloned the existing mailserver, created a new store, then using a acronis exported out most recent backup to the cloned mailservers new store. Should we have done it another way to avoid the problem?

Whoa, that would a big problem cloing virtual machines and then use something like acronis to move mailbox data from the backup into newly created mailboxes. When you did a new store, did you also create new mailboxes? that would create a new GUID and outlook will not sync anymore. Solution would be to wipe the outlook profile and recreate it. lasse at humandata dot se, http://anewmessagehasarrived.blogspot.com
