Real-time co-authoring in Office Web Apps Server 15.0.4727.1001?

Hi folks!

Collaboration just got easier: Real-time co-authoring now available in Office Web Apps by Amanda Lefebvre, on November 6, 2013.

  • Amanda Lefebvre:"Using real-time co-authoring, colleagues, friends and family can contribute and edit documents simultaneously in the Word Web App, PowerPoint Web App or Excel Web App."
  • Christian Heindel: "Is there any information on how and when this real-time editing functionality will come to the on-premises version? (Office Web Apps Server)?"
  • Amanda Lefebvre: "The Office Web Apps Server will be updated with real-time co-authoring, but I dont have time to share today. "

Two years passed. Anyone knows, whether this functionality appeared in the 15.0.4727.1001 build or earler? Thanks a lot!

Hi,

Is 15.0.4727.1001 build an Office build #? If so, Im afraid I couldnt give an very accurate answer which detailed to build #.

However, based on the information in this article and discussion in this thread, co-authoring feature are available for Office 2013 and above. To use this feature, there are two conditions to be met:

  • Versions      that are denoted by * support co-authoring functionality, even when      Office Web Apps isn't configured or enabled in SharePoint.
  • The co-authoring functionality is available to Office 2013 users who have OneDrive accounts, whether or not SharePoint 2013, SharePoint Online or SharePoint 2010 are installed. This article only covers use of co-authoring in SharePoint.

Meanwhile, this forum is focusing on Office client related questions/queries, if you have further questions regarding this, this forum will be the best place for your question. Thank you for your understanding.
