Read-only and compatibility mode for files opened from the internet

Our program allows our users to create documents based on templates we have loaded into our program (program is web-based). When they create a new document, it should open in Word, and then they save the document after editing by using an add-in that we created for Word. The documents are .docx

I have one client running on Windows 8, with Office 2013 and using the most recent version of IE; when she opens a new document, it opens in read-only and compatibility mode. Saving the document to her computer would keep our add-in from functioning correctly. I have made sure that the protected view checkboxes are unchecked, which usually fixes this issue. I also tried adding the temporary internet file location to trusted locations. I made sure that .docx is set to open with Word by default. I have ensured that our website is added to trusted sites in IE and enable protected mode is unchecked.

How can we fix this so that the documents do not open in read-only mode?

Thanks!

Hi,

Which web-based program are you using to store the templates?

Does this issue happen to other users?

First, please make sure the templates are not saved with selecting the Read-only recommended option.

In addition, please save the document to local drive and check if it opened in read-only mode.

I have tested in my environment, with the protected view checkboxes unchecked, when I open a file from SharePoint, a window pops up and say How would you like to open this file?, so I can choose to open in Read Only mode or Edit mode.

What's your situation? Did get any choice to select the mode? Please feel free to contact me again.

Thanks,
