Re: Exchange Server Failing to Boot up & Start Services
I've bought a brand new IBM server and installed Microsoft Windows 2003 Server R2 (x64) onto it.A clean install of Exchange Server 2007 was put on and everything was fine until I joined the computer to the domain in A/D. The computer hangs on startup and a lot of the exchange services fail to start when I do get in there.I did install Exchange and integrate with A/D before and had to remove it because of simmilar issues but now it seems as if I cannot get this thing up and running.Any suggestions on how to go about cleaning up A/D and getting Exchange to be able to at least run the EMC?Thanks in advance,Chris

Hi, Something sounds very wrong here. You can't Install exchange server 2007 and then join the server to a domain. You must do this in an opposite order. Join the server to the domain and then install exchange 2007. Usually when exchange services don't start they add some events in the application log explaining why - did you check these? Leif

Hey,Sorry, my mistake. You're right. I joined the domain, everything was successful and I installed Exchange Server (because that was one of the pre requisits).I had a ton of errors in the event viewer, I will post them, I just restored a backup of the system state on the machine so I was able to revert back but now I must install Exchange Server once again.I will let you know how it goes and post any errors. If you could help, that would be great. Thanks Leif,Chris

Ok, I have to format the server AGAIN. Second time today. I can't seem to get anything working, which is a real bother. I'm going to start fresh but would like to ask anyone if there is anything I must do to Active Directory to clean up any references to Exchange?I have ran ADSIEDIT.MSC and deleted all references to Exchange Server, I've removed DNS forward and reverse lookup entries.Am I missing anything else?

Hi, Please refer to the document and reinstall Exchange Server. If any error occur during the installation, please check detail error information from Exchangesetup.log. It would be located at C:\ExchangeSetuplogs Preparing to Deploy Exchange 2007 http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa995902(EXCHG.80).aspx Hope it helps. Xiu
