Random computers running Outlook 2010 crash after a bulk(distribution group) calendar invite is selected!!

Hi There,

We are experiencing an issue with Outlook 2010 across multiple clients in our company. The clients affected are running Windows 7 and 8.1 with Office suite 2010 32 bit installed. This occurred two days ago and we noticed that one of the triggers was a calendar invite sent to all staff (Distribution group) which made outlook unresponsive, a restart was required.

Another trigger to this issue we suspect are the latest windows updates applied and in some cases pending to apply through our WSUS. There were quite a few updates for the office suite, which included two outlook updates available end of august and before that there was the service pack 2 for office 2010 applied.

At the moment we are desperate to find a solution to this problem as we have applied all the workarounds like:

  • check/disable add-on's
  • run outlook /cleanreminders and outlook /cleanfreebusy
  • Also we have enabled cache mode on some clients to monitor if outlook performance improves.

We suspect this is related to the client office suite as the exchange server we are running hasn't reported any issues, plus all the mac and windows 10 users are not affected and users can access webmail without a problem.

Looking forward to your response.

Best Regards,

Denis

Hi,

The first thing that I suspect is that the address book is corrupted, please try to update the Address Book then check the result:

File -> Info -> Account Settings -> Download Address Book -> I suggest you download "Full Details".

Moreover, please check if creating a new Outlook Profile will fix the problem.

Hi Melon,

I have just tried to download the address book using your instructions but i get the following error:

Task 'denis.gorica@open.edu.au' reported error (0x8004010F) : 'The operation failed. An object cannot be found'

How can i resolve this? also are there any tools available that i can use to check/repair the address book?

Thanks for your help.

Hi,

About the error 0x8004010F in Outlook 2010, we can refer to this kb below:

https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2659085

A simple fix is to create a new Outlook profile, you can have a try.

This issue also occurs if the Outlook client computer is configured to use proxy settings when Windows Internet Explorer is used. However, the IP address of the Exchange Client Access Server (CAS) server is not in the exclusion list:

  • Start Internet Explorer, click Tools, and then click Internet Options.
  • On the Connections tab, click LAN settings.
  • elect the Bypass proxy server for local addresses check box, and then click Advanced.
  • Type the FQDN of the Exchange CAS server, and then click OK.
  • Restart Outlook.
