RSG And Disappearing Emails
Here is my situation. 1. I am using Exchange 2007. 2. I have a mailbox that is missing e-mails. 3. I use Backup Exec to restore the emails to a RSG (because there is a problem restoring directly to the mailboxes on win2008) 4. I mount the RSG and perform a Merge. 5. I look at the inbox in outlook and watch all the e-mails come back. 6. As soon as they are restored they disappear! they are not moved to deleted and there are no error logs. 7. I have tried to RSG recovery from the EMC and the command line. Any help is appreciated.

I did not solve the problem, but I did find a work around. Here is what I did: 1. I used EMC to create a RSG 2. I used BackupExec to restore tot he RSG 3. I used EMC to mount the RSG. 4. I used the restore-mailbox cmdlet to restore what I wanted to a inbox sub-folder: Restore-mailbox usage: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb125218(EXCHG.80).aspx Example: restore-mailbox -identity "myUser" -RSGDatabase "<server>\Recovery Storage Group\Mailbox Database" -TargetFolder "restore" After you hit enter the cmdlet will ask you for the Mailbox ID. There are several way to get this, I simply went into EMC | Toolbox | Database Recovery Management. I clicked on copy or merge, keep clicking next until you get a list of users. next to the users is the Mailbox ID. I typed in the mailbox id into the cmdlet and presto, all e-mails I needed were restored tot he sub-folder in my users inbox. -Robert
