RPC /HTTP and Exchange 2007
I'm trying to configure outlook client using rpc/https but it doesn't work. exchange server is exchange 2007 SP1 running on windows 2008 Server. Exchange is a Clustered Mailbox server Mail1 and Mail2 and has two Hub Transport /CAS Servers Hub1 and Hub2 . The virtual instance of Exchange server mailsrvr-01 . when i configure the outlook it does work fine but configuring the outlook rpc/https doesn't work. when defining the rpc server name do i need to define the virtual Instnaec or the CAS path?

Presuming that you have enabled Outlook Anywhere in Exchange, the first question is which version of Outlook? If it is Outlook 2007 or higher then autodiscover should do everything for you. If Outlook 2003 then you simply need to enter the external name of the CAS server in the box, in the second box it should be in the format msstd:host.example.com. Use a test account and the Microsoft test site. That will tell you if everything is configured correctly. https://www.testexchangeconnectivity.com/ Simon.Simon Butler, Exchange MVP. http://blog.sembee.co.uk , http://exbpa.com/

Additionally assume you have set up DNS to include autodiscover? This is required even internally for Outlook to automatically set up a users Outlook profile. Take a look at this. http://msexchangeteam.com/archive/2007/04/30/438249.aspx Good Luck

at the same time we have certificate installed on the server which are bought from Godaddy. it has multiple names. when I access the OWA internally I see the internal NetBios name of the server in the certificate, it is normal?

What version of Outlook is this? Autodiscover resolving to an external IP address isn't a problem if all of your clients are members of the domain, as they will get their information from the domain. However if you are using Outlook 2003, then the mutual authentication setting looks for the common name to match. If you set your common name to the server's NETBIOS name, then this will cause it to fail to connect, because it doesn't match. You can either disable the mutual authentication setting and see if that allows it to connect, or get the certificate reissued with the common name set to your preferred external name (mail.example.com). You shouldn't be configuring anything by hand then. Autodiscover should do everything for you. I therefore refer you to the answer I provided above - use a test account and the Microsoft test site to confirm whether things are working correctly. hey Simon https://www.testexchangeconnectivity.com/ used this tool and it is failing even it is failing on Active Sync while my phone is synced. ActiveSync? I thought this question was about Outlook Anywhere (the name for RPC over HTTPS on Exchange 2007 and higher). Do the test for Outlook Anywhere and see what it brings back as the cause of the problem. Outlook Anywhere come with failure. when i look at the error , the autodiscoverip is different than CAS server. In that case you need to correct your DNS. Autodiscover isn't an optional function. It is used by Outlook 2007 and higher frequently. It is how the availability is setup. Correct your DNS, then test again. The tool will tell you most of the common errors. Hi, The autodiscover.servername.com should be resolve to the external IP address of the CAS. Additionally, the external name of Outlook Anywhere also should be pointed to CAS. Additionally, you can post the log here about the testing on the website which provided by Sembee. This can help us handle this issue more effectively. Thanks Allen

You shouldn't be making manual registry changes on Exchange 2007. That sounds like you have been reading Exchange 2003 instructions. Remove them. I would probably suggest that you go as far as disabling Outlook Anywhere, then running iisreset, and enabling it again so that the registry changes are corrected and Exchange puts them in. Manual configuration is not normally required. My enabling Outlook Anywhere I mean enabling it through EMC, not any other method. You don't have to enable it through the command line unless you wish to - but if you do, then refer to the Technet command reference for Outlook Anywhere. I've remoced and added again RPC/HTTPs feature in Windows Server 2007 running CAS and HUB Transport Role. How do I make sure this role is working and listening the ports. I don't find Outlook Anywhere tab under CAS.

I've configured the outlook and it works on HTTPS. Now I'm testing it externally. thanks for constant support.

Very interesting. Now I'm able to connect or able to use Outlook Anywhere for my Primary domain. I can only use/login using Basic Authentication. When I use NTLM it connects on TCP - why? And what port do I need to open at Cisco to allow NTLM authentication? At the same time - when I try to configured the a hosted domain acount it pops-up with the Bookmark invalid. This user account works only if I add this user to a Universal Security Group of the Primart Domain. If I do so then this user is able to see the GAL and Public Folder of the primary domain. So the Primary Domain OU is like EA Users - EAU Staff (Security Group) Hosted Account Hosted OU - Hosted Company Name - USERS OU and SECURITY OU.
