Question about Exchange 2007 last server uninstall failure due to public folders replicas still present
Hi all, I'm trying to uninstall the last Exchange 2007 server from an organization. The Exchange 2007 server was added to an existing Exchange 2003 environment, and before the Exchange 2003 server could be removed from the organization the hardware hosting the Exchange 2003 server failed. There were no remaining mailboxes on the Exchange 2003 server when it failed, nor any user-created public folders, but I had not yet successfully removed the server from the organization (I was waiting for two remaining public folders to finish replication (see below for what this caused). Now I am trying to remove the Exchange 2007 server. All of the mailboxes and connectors have been removed from the Exchange 2007 server, and the hub and client access roles have also been normally removed. The only remaining role is the mailbox role. However, according to Exchange there remain replica(s) of Exchange 2003 public folder(s) that failed to replicate before the hardware failure of the Exchange 2003 server. I believe the replicas that were not yet moved when the Exchange 2003 server failed were Schedule+ and exchangev1 public folders -- that's the last pair of folders that I saw. So these may well be what is being talked about. I had waited a couple of days for those to moved, but they had not yet moved after a couple of days. So, I have an organization that seems to have some remnants of the Exchange 2003 server, and has a couple of public folders that still think there are replicas on the Exchange 2007 public store. My end goal here is to remove all the remnants of the Exchange 2003 and Exchange 2007 from the server. I will not be reinstalling Exchange in the short-medium term, and none of the information in mailboxes, public folders, or any of the exchange entries in active directory need to be retained. The immediate issue I am seeing is that the replicas of the Exchange 2003 folders are preventing the Mailbox role from being uninstalled by anormal Exchange 2007uninstall. Is there some switch or other way for force Exchange 2007 to remove all the exchange bits from the AD, and remove all the remaining services and data stores? Or possibly are there manual uninstall instructions somewhere? Thanks in advance... P.S. We are dealing with 64 bit Windows 2003 R2 here.

Leif, Thanks, yes I was trying to follow that, but thanks for the pointer. For anyone finding this later, I finally chose to used adsiedit and deleted the node that was blocking the uninstall, and then used normal uninstalls.. I was then able to uninstall Exchange 2007, and then used Exchange 2003 setup to remove the organization records. If someone else is seeing this, I would only attempt this technique if you clearly understand the risks of deleting things using adsiedit ....
