Query regarding Public Folder replication messages
Hi AllI recently asked a question regarding Public Folder replication messages:http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/exchangesvrgeneral/thread/63e1c4d1-a08b-4787-9114-ec306d5d68d5Basically, I had a dead Exchange server (Exch1) and noticed that there were mails queued on other Bridgehead servers for EMAIL REMOVED. As it happened, we managed to get Exch1 back up again, so the queues cleared. It seems these were public folder replication messages, but I had a few others questions I was hoping someone could help answer:1. Let's say the server remained down and I manually deleted the EMAIL REMOVED messages to prevent the queues forming: what would happen when I brought the server up again? Would the public folders not be updated?2. What exactly do these message contain? Is an email sent everytime a PF is updated, or are they sent periodically and contain a list of updates that have occured in that period? Thanks

Hi,Public Folder replication contacts two parts: one is Hierarchy Replication, the other one is Content Replication.Content replication keep synchronised through a scheduled replication process using email as the transport.Hierarchy repliction is actually very similar to normal content replication of this folder. The difference being that Hierarchy replication happens automatically and cannot be stopped. And the Hierarchy includes:Creating, deleting & renaming a foldermodifying folder permissionsmodifying the descriptionchanging the replication schedule or prioritymodify replica listsThus, to keep the update between the two servers for the public folder, please just update the content replication manually.ThanksAllen

Hi AllenThanks for answering...So the emails for my server that apparently contain PF replication details are Content Replication or Hierarchy Replication messages? And do you know the answer to this question:"Let's say the server remained down and I manually deleted the EMAIL REMOVED messages to prevent the queues forming: what would happen when I brought the server up again? Would the public folders not be updated?"

Hi,To distinguish the Hierarchy Replication and Content Replication, you can view the message type in the Event log. Hierarchy Replication is 0x2, Content Replication is 0x4.http://www.msexchange.org/articles/Public-Folder-Replication-Troubleshooting.htmlFor the second question, the Public Folders will be updated automatically as I said previouly. To better understand the working process for Public Folder replication, you can refer to the below article:http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa997291(EXCHG.65).aspxThanksAllen
