Query-based Distribution Group Exchange 2003 vs 2010
I am upgrading my network from Exchange 2003 to 2010. I notice that on my Win 7 client and the Exchange 2010 when I check my Query-based Distribution Groups they are missing an icon and I when I access their properties I only get the one basic 'Managed by' properties sheet. Anyone know what going on here? and how to fix or change? I am concerned that I will need to recreate all QBDG when I take the 2003 server offline.

Hi Sydleg, In Exchange 2003 LDAP was used to create the custom distribution groups. Exchange 2010 uses OPATH filtering insted. The LDAP filters will work with Exchange 2010 but you cannot manage them using Exchange 2010 tools. If you want to edit the groups from Exchange 2010 you will have to upgrade the LDAP filters to OPATH. Se this link for more information: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc164375.aspx

Hi, In the property screen, there are many tags there. Did you mean you just have one "Managed by" tag? Or which tag have you missed there? Please try to create another new group and check its property. Best Regards!

I solved this issue. The problem was that the Groups needed to be upgraded. For some reason under Exch 2003 you can have an alias with spaces in it, whereas you cannot in 2010. So as soon as I fixed that the groups were ok. Also, you need to upgrade all distribution groups. There is great instruction on it here: http://www.simple-talk.com/sysadmin/exchange/upgrade-exchange-2003-to-exchange-2010---part-ii/
