QOS and Port Mapping
One of my network guys wants to know if we can do static port mapping with Outlook and and Exchange 2007. The reason is that he want to make sure that connection has priority over other traffic on WAN links. I know how to do the static port mapping, but what I would like to know is, is this the right solution to the problem? Is there an alternative way to gaurantee performance without setting the static port mappings in Exchange 2007.

The purpose of setting the port is to enhance the security level as I know, so I don’t think it will apply any priority-related influence for the package on the network However, if the ports weren’t dynamic on the servers and clients, it could be easily for network team to set the relevant rules on the network devices, in order to make the priority for the specific network traffic data Anyway, there isn’t an exchange feature that can set the priority to impact on its own network traffic as I knowJames Luo TechNet Subscriber Support (http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/subscriptions/ms788697.aspx) If you have any feedback on our support, please contact tngfb@microsoft.com
