Publishing Free / Busy externally with Exchange 2010
I have created three new calendars on Exchange 2010 SP1. I want the free busy information for these calendars to available outside the organization. I have followed the steps in this article: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff607475.aspx but when I try to book a meeting with these calendars externally the free/busy information is "not available" VIA the scheduling assistant in Outlook. Please help.

Are you sure you prepared all 3 steps - enable OWAVirtualDirectory, create policy and assigned this new sharing policy to those mailboxes?Regards, Konrad Sagala, MCT, MCSE+M, MCITP: Exchange 2007/2010

What about internet connection? Sharing callendar information requires external web access do your CAS server used to publishing, the same at partner side. How this publication is established? By TMG or directly. Can you check with TMG logging, Network monitor or Wireshark what's happend with this access?Regards, Konrad Sagala, MCT, MCSE+M, MCITP: Exchange 2007/2010

The Exchange server is internet facing, I'm able to access OWA from outside. Does the free/busy use a different port? I'm trying to book this meeting using Outlook 2010 externally.

Hi, Free/busy is Exchange web-based service, it use port 443 or 80. There might be a misunderstanding. Free/busy information is provided by Exchange server, if you are logon into a third party mailbox in Outlook, you are not able to see Free/busy information in Outlook. Instead, youcan check whether the target mailbox is free or not via the shared calendar items. Let me know if you have any other question in this thread. Fiona Liao TechNet Community Support

I'm not sure I understand. You are saying third party users cannot see Free/Busy information, but it seems like they should per this line: "Users in Microsoft Exchange Server 2010 organizations can share calendar availability (free/busy) information with users in non-Exchange organizations and other individuals with Internet access." in this article: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff607475.aspx

Sorry for the confustion, please let me I explain in more detailed. The free/busy information infact is the schedule listed in Calendar folder. When we logon into Outlook with a Exchange mailbox account and try to invite someone in Scheduling Assistant box, Outlook will try to connect Exchange server for Autodiscver service and availability services, which will check recipient's calendar folder, and then return the schedule information (when it is free or busy) to Outlook clients. However, if we logon into Outlook with a NON-Exchange mailbox account, Outlook will not try to retrieve free/busy information because there is no availability service provded. I understand that you are using Federated trust between different organizations for calendar sharing. So it depends on the organization outside your org. If it is Exchange org then you can get free/busy information in Outlook Scheduling Assistant box if the permission is setup correctly. If it is not Exchange email system, I'd suggest you publish a calendar on Office.com. See http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/outlook-help/share-an-outlook-calendar-with-other-people-HA010354420.aspx.
