Publisher 2010 Editing text in a Text Box
When trying to edit text in a text box in Publisher 2010 I find I'm unable to do it.  I get 2 results; either it highlights to whole text box text and deletes it when I start typing or I do not see a cursor but it allows the entry after waiting about 10 seconds for each letter to appear (or when I move off the text box).  I cannot find anyway to edit the text without completely deleting it and re-typing everything.  When in Word I do not have this issue, works as it always has in previous versions.  There has to be an easier way to edit the text in the box without having to re-type.

Hi,

1 Start Microsoft Publisher 2010 and open a document from your files that contains text that you would like to edit.

2 Choose the Select Objects button at the top of the Objects toolbar. This allows you to select the text you want to edit.

3 Click within the text you want to change to place the cursor there. You can now use the backspace and arrow buttons on your keyboard to delete and retype the text.

4 Click and drag over the text you want to further edit. The text will become highlighted indicating that it is selected and ready to be edited.

5 Press the "Delete" key on your keyboard to erase all the selected text from the document. Enter different text if you want to.

6 Make selections from the Formatting toolbar to change the style, size or look of the text you have selected.

Sincerely,

Harry

Thanks.  That works but extremely slowly.  When selecting the text or just placing the cursor it takes about 20-30 seconds to react.  I do not have a speed issue except here.  All other applications work without a problem.  I'm finding out now that this was the issue all long, since it was not reacting to my highlight or cursor placement right away I believed that I was unable to edit the text.  Is there a caching issue?

I was just having the same problem. I was ready to put my fist through the screen. Such a basic task as selecting text and changing it and they make it impossible.

Sometimes the entire text would change to a different font and size simply by typing backspace or by attempting to place the cursor in the right place.

Will never recommend this program.

I agree!!! I have used Publisher from the beginning of time and now with 2010 I have to delete the text box and recreate text every time I need to edit. I do not have nor can I find an Objects toolbar. I found a select object but that does not get me any where. I used to be able to open publisher and edit the text??

2010 publisher is no longer intuitive for me?

This is not working? I have been using publisher since the beginning, but no longer intuitive. Why cannot I just open and edit?

I found a select objects button, but has no effect on my editing text in my document. I also cannot find the Objects toolbar to turn on?

Guess I will need to go back to Open Office??

This is obviously not the answer. This is a restatement of the problem. Inside the box the cursor is so slow , often invisable to 5-10 seconds. Edit moves take 5-10 seconds. This answer is how it should work. EXCEPT - what version of 2010 has an Objects toolbar? Not mine.

I agree with you - made editing text so much more difficult - hate this version of PUBLISHER
