Public Folders and Sharepoint
I posted to the Sharepoint Forum: Hi, I set up inbound email on my WSS 3.0 site so that a mail enabled document library will get mail if I mail directly to its configured address; tested this with outlook and it's working. However, if I forward mail to the same email address automatically by creating a rule on a public folder eg. all mail forward to user1@mydomain.com, user2@mydomain.com and mydocumentlibrary@mysharepointserver.mydomain.com, then the users will get their mail but the public folder will not get the email. Is this by design? I did try creating a contact for the Library's email address and forwarding to that - same as I would for an external address - but that didn't work either. I am using the smtp service on the SP server. I am not seeing inbound mail hit the inetpub "drop" folder when it is being forwarded from the public folder. It does hit the drop folder when I send directly from Outlook. Exchange is 2003. Thanks! Any Ideas?

Exchange probably thinks you are trying to send mail to the Internet, and you smartly have forbidden automatic replies and forwards to the Internet. I recommend that you create a contact for each of the SharePoint recipients and change the forward rule to forward to the contact. -- Ed Crowley MVP "There are seldom good technological solutions to behavioral problems." . I had set this up, but double checked and sure enough, had set up the contact wrong. Set it up correctly, and it is now exhibiting the same problem: can send from outlook directly to the contact and it ends up in the document library as planned. If I send to the public folder it does not go to the document library; does not show up in the drop (or queue) folders in inetpub on the sharepoint smtp install.

I checked, and for some reason it was set to custom. I switched it to "contributor" which only added view folder permissions. Tested; same problem.

I sent a couple of more test messages and used the message tracking center. First I removed all email addresses from the forwarding rule on the public folder. When a message is forwarded just to the document library, I can see where the message dies in the tracking center. The last reported stop when I open the message detail is SMTP: Message Submitted to Categorizer. When sending to the same contact from outlook the message is delivered; the next step in tracking center is SMTP: Message Categorized and Queued for Routing. It is then routed for remote deliver to the SMTP service on my sharepoint server.

I also killed all Trend Micro processes on the Exchange server and am still stalling at "Message Submitted to Categorizer".

Got it: In exchange manager: Global Settings > Internet Message Formats > Properties of Default > Advanced tab > Allow Automatic Forward.
