Public Folders, OAB and Autodiscovery Problems - Trying to remove 1st Exc 2007 Server in a 2 server Org
We have 2 Exchange 2007 servers. End goal is to remove the 1st one. All mailboxes, connectors have been moved to new box. All Public Folders were moved as well. The consultant who helped us out let me with instructions on removing the PF's from 1st server. He also assured me that OWA, and everything was moved to the new server. I followed these steps:
How to Move Public Folder Content from one Public Folder Database to Another Public Folder Database
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb331970.aspx
Verify that all replicas have moved to the public folder database on the second Exchange 2007 server by using the Get-PublicFolderStatistics cmdlet.
Get-PublicFolderStatistics
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa998663.aspx
Remove old public folder database and uninstall mailbox server role.
How to Remove a Public Folder Database
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa998329(EXCHG.80).aspx
However I was still unable to actually remove the db's. I found a way to do that with ADSI edit through a Google search and followed these steps: http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/exchangesvrdeploy/thread/9b661d5a-d728-4f88-98be-3273fbb49c09Once I did that, all PF's disappeared for all users. I then used PFDAVADMIN to show deleted folders. I recovered all of them, re-mail enabled some and appeared to be good for the past two weeks. Well now I'm having users complain of sync issues and a couple users on Outlook 07 can't manually download the OAB. Users on Outlook 2003 can without issue. I am not sure if the PF disappearing act caused this or what. I am unable to add a replica to the only PF's that exist now on new server. Get the mapi/permissions error. I cannot get to the internal url on the new server for oab, however the 1st/old server does get a hit. If I do a test-outlookwebservices, it appears that almost all the services are still pointing at the old server.I've been working this all day and feel like I've made no progress. Can anyone assist? Thanks,JS

Probably the easiest way to fix the OAB is to blow it away,
then generate a new one using Update-OfflineAddressBook. If that scares
you, just update it first and see if it fixes the issue.
Next time you try to get rid of the public folder store,
dismount it first and see if users can still do their thing. It's a lot
easier to mount a dismounted store than recover one!-- Ed Crowley

Hi,For Outlook 2007 clients OAB issue, please understand that Outlook 2007 first query the AD to retrieve all SCP objects for Autodiscover. Then sorts and enumerates the returned results based on the client's Active Directory site by using the keyword attribute of the SCP record. Then Outlook clients connect each autodiscover URL to get the OAB url, and use it to download the OAB.Now I would like to confirm whether the OAB generation server has been migrated to the new Exchange server. And the Web Distribution should be enabled on the new Exchange server. Now please run get-offlineaddressbook |fl command in EMS, then post the information here. Additionally, please run test-outlookwebservices |fl, and post here.ThanksAllen
