Public Folder rules breaks permanently
Hi there,I'm migrating my mailbox and public folders from Exchange 2003 to Exchange 2007. Since I deleted the old server as a replication server from the public folders I have the following problem:We have both, mail-enabled and not mail-enabled folders. For both groups of folders we define rules to forward the emails to other recipients. With email-enabled folders this works fine. For not mail-enabled folders the rule breaks when adding an email to the folder and Exchange logs a message in the event log:Ereignistyp:FehlerEreignisquelle:MSExchangeIS Public StoreEreigniskategorie:Regeln Ereigniskennung:1041Datum:25.05.2009Zeit:11:03:35Benutzer:Nicht zutreffendComputer:SRVEC024Beschreibung:Die Regel '1-EB2939F7DD' mit der laufenden Nummer 100 wurde aufgrund des Fehlers -2147221220 beim Anwenden der Regel deaktiviert. Der Betreff der Nachricht, durch die der Fehler verursacht wurde, lautet 'Test'.Problem in Funktion 'EcDoPublicFolderRules'.Der ffentliche Ordner ist 'EC-EDV\Test' in Datenbank 'Storage Group Public Folder\Public Folder Database'. After email-enabling the folder the rules works fine. This never happened with exchange 2003 so what's going wrong here? As our users are creating the public folders on their own it's no option to email-enable all those folders.Kind regards,Carsten

The symptom is due to a change in public folder behavior on Exchange server 2007 In Exchange 5.5, where folders were mail enabled by default, to Exchange 2000/2003, which no longer mail enables by default (unless Exchange 5.5 is still in the environment), but does stamp an email address by default, to Exchange 2007, which no longer mail enables or stamps an email address by default. It's the lack of the email address that will cause the failure in your case So, we need to mail-enable all public folders for rules to function Notes: If the problematic public folder is a moderated public folder, that public folder must be mail-enabled as well. Hi James-Luo,thank you for the explanation. Do you know any way to return to the old behaviour? Like I told my user are working with this feature a lot and this issue is causing a lot of work for our IT department. As an alternative, is there any way to email-enable all public folders by default? To be honest, this is some kind of change I cannot understand. This makes the user management of public folder obsolete as the user cannot work with public folders as expected. It's even hard to sell the new Exchange 2007 as benefit to someone who's affected by this.Kind regards,Carsten
