Public Folder Show this folder as and email address book disabled Exchange 2003/Outlook 2010
Hello We have a Public Folder called Central Company Contacts In Outlook 2007 we click the Public Folder's Properties then tick "Show this folder as an email address book" but in Outlook 2010 this is disabled. So users of Outlook 2010 cannot use Central Company Contacts. How do we enable this in Outlook 2010?

If the Show this folder as an e-mail address book check box is unavailable, you need to add the Outlook Address Book to your profile. Click File->Info->Account Settings->Address Books, click New. In Directory or address book window, click Additional Address Books, and then click Next. Click Outlook Address Book, and then click Next. Click OK. Hi Tim I have already tried Q197577 The Outlook address book is already there so I cannot add it again and the option to remove is disabled so I cannot remove and re-add.

Hi Gavin I follwoed the procedure. In Outlook the tick box next Show this folder as an e-mail address book is greyed out. That is the problem I discovered that if I create a new Mail Profile for the user, the tick box is enabled, but I would rather not do that for every PC in the business. What do I need to review/check for existing profiles to enable the tick-box? Regards Graham

Hi Graham, It maybe caused the permission issue, you could check the permission of the account for the folder, and gave them the proper permission, and then make a test. Regards! Gavin

Hi Gavin Permissions were the first thing I checked, natch. Where does this check-box get it's enabled/disabled value from? A registry entry? What sets the registry entry value and why? If you can pass this to someone who can answer this I would be grateful. Otherwise don't worry. I have been to each PC and created new Profiles, attached their Archive.pst files etc., etc., etc.. Yawn! Regards Graham

Hi Graham, I have discuss the issue with my team member. It maybe caused by the corrpted profile, the exchange server end seems well, inculde the permission. Do you use the cach mode or the online mode? You could change it and restart the outlook make a test. If you want to confirm which registry control the checkbox, I would suggest that you could post the issue on the outlook forum, you would get more help from there. And could I closed the thread? Best regards! Gavni

Hi Gavni I have changed the caching mode and it makes no difference. I agree, it seems to be a corrupted profile because creating a new profile resolves the issue. I wonder what "corrupted profile" means? How do profiles get corrupted and how do I fix them if they do? Naturally I don't like these kinds of events where there is no answer. I you cannot provide an answer please close the thread. Regards Graham
