Public Folder Server Sizing
Hi, Could anyone point me in the direction of some information around the best practices for sizing a dedicated Exchange 2010 public folder server (RAM, CPU, etc.)? I can find loads of information about sizing the mailbox role but it all relates to number of user mailboxes etc. which obviously won't apply to a PF server. Cheers

Hi I haven't seen any tool for sizing public folders, maybe MSFT can confirm or give us some information about it? Maybe you can collect information with ExPTA and check the concurrent connected users and size it depending on that information Jonas Andersson MCTS: Microsoft Exchange Server 2007/2010 | MCITP: EMA 2007/2010 | MCSE/MCSA Blog: http://www.testlabs.se/blog

Thanks, I don't always have access to that information when sizing a PF server, I was hoping that there would be some best practice guidelines. Hopefully someone from MS will have some suggestions.

Based on my research, there is no certain tool for sizing public folders. You can refer to the following article about Best Practices for Public Folder. http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb397221.aspx Thanks.Novak Wu-MSFT

Personally, I would size them the same as your mailbox servers. That's assuming you are building dedicated public folder servers.

Personally, I would size them the same as your mailbox servers. That's assuming you are building dedicated public folder servers. I have taken the path of sizing them the same (CPU, RAM) but the number of servers I have used in the design I am working on (yet to be tested) is 2:1 (MBX:PF). We will see. I think this will be more than enough as Public Folders are not used very heavily with this client.
