Public Folder Permissions Exchange 2010 - Admins vs Basic Users
I'm trying to find the granularity of access permissions for public folders. I know basic users can't create public folders, but as a domain admin/exchange organization mgmt member, I can create/edit/modify from the root level. Is there a Role Group that a basic user has to be a member of in order to create objects and set permissions on those objects? By default, should users be restricted from creating a public folder? Thanks! JBJB

See this - http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa996369.aspx You can add to a RBAC group which I think you probably dont want your end users to do, unless you are talking about giving access to your IT staff. For more granual permissions do it via the EMS - http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa997986.aspx You can also give permission on the public folders directly. If you let end users create PF it can get out of hand, so maybe restrict a department manager or key users rather than everyone otherwise they will become unmanagable. You can also use ExFolders to manage PF - http://gallery.technet.microsoft.com/Exchange-2010-SP1-ExFolders-e6bfd405 Sukh

How many public folders do you have now?

Hi, As my test, Using Outlook to manage public folder permissions is a good way. Open Outlook with Administrator’s accountà Right click the root public folderàClick “Properties”àClick “Permission” àAdd a group in the permission list, and grant “Create subfolders” permission to the group (same as publishing Author)à Add the user into the group. You could also add the user directly into the permission list. As default, basic users only have "create items" permission.
