Problems sending email to the Internet. please help.
Hi I am having problems sending external mail from outside of my domain. MY ISP is AOL and I have a dynamic IP address. I created a SMTP external connector on my Hub Transport server and that appears to be ok. But when I try sending mail to an outside address I get the following problems. Hotmail says : COL0-MC1-F1.Col0.hotmail.com #550 DY-001 Mail rejected by Windows Live Hotmail for policy reasons. We generally do not accept email from dynamic IP's as they are not typically used to deliver unauthenticated SMTP e-mail to an Internet mail server. http://www.spamhaus.org maintains lists of dynamic and residential IP addresses. If you are not an email/network admin please contact your E-mail/Internet Service Provider for help. Email/network admins, please visit http://postmaster.live.com for email delivery information and support ## And I dont receive and other info from others. Exchange just sauys it has problems trying to deliver the mail and will try again later. please help.

Yes, many public mail systems don't accept message from Dynamic IP range. You may need to look up for the SMTP smarthost relay with your ISP to route mails through, for your Exchange server. Amit Tank | MVP Exchange Server | MCITP: EMA | MCSA: M | http://ExchangeShare.WordPress.com

Amit Tank | MVP Exchange Server | MCITP: EMA | MCSA: M | http://ExchangeShare.WordPress.com How do I do that? I just created a new connector and added the smart host details this way. But now the AOL SMTP authentication server is refusing to send my mail because its not coming from an AOL domain. it is expecting something@aol.comandthrows this error. cia-ma07.mx.aol.com #550 INCORRECT DOMAIN IN MAIL/RCPT COMMAND ## Thanks

You need to get the smtp relay setting and configuration instruction from AOL if they are providing smtp relay under your service subscription. Otherwise you may need to go for static IP address as Mumin said...Amit Tank | MVP Exchange Server | MCITP: EMA | MCSA: M | http://ExchangeShare.WordPress.com

Amit Tank | MVP Exchange Server | MCITP: EMA | MCSA: M | http://ExchangeShare.WordPress.com This is what AOL provide Email application setup basics Setting up access to the AOL email servers is relatively simple, and the settings are similar for most email applications. The basic information that you need is as follows: Your email address: screenname@aol.com (Be sure to include the @aol.com or suffix) Incoming mail (IMAP) server address: imap.aol.com Outgoing mail (SMTP) server address: smtp.aol.com; port: 587 Your user name is your AOL screen name Your password is your AOL password When I created the custom SMTP connectorI added the SMART HOST fqdn as smtp.aol.com and then I supplied my login credentials for authentication purposes. But its not liking the domain name where the mail is coming from as its not an aol suffix.

Well, this is different, this procedure is to configure the mail account of AOL with the client applications like outlook, outlook express etc... SMTP relay is different thing, where Exchange can just relay mails for your domain (*@yourdomain.com) to send/receive from internet. This you may check with the company where you have registered your domain also...Amit Tank | MVP Exchange Server | MCITP: EMA | MCSA: M | http://ExchangeShare.WordPress.com

At the moment domain is just an internal domain and i have exchange installed in it. i thought you could just create a send connector and send email to other externalsmtp servers. So what do I need to do then to get this all setup and working correctly?thanks

Best way is to register domain and get static IP so you can create and configureMX & A record to receive mails on your Exchange server. Outgoing would not be a problem since it will be static IP. But if you don't want to go for static IP then register your domain and look for smtp relay service provider as I said, so smarthost allows you to send/receive internet mails and point MX record of your domain to smtp relay smarthost... Then getting a SSL cert for it too. What about GoDaddy could I use them? And what about the url for my OWA. How would I set that up? Thanks

HI, You must get Static ip address from your ISP.After that you should configure port redirection on your router as said Abuthaheer. If your requirement is send emails to outside, Can do that just using free SMTP relay server such as Gmail. You can configure Gmail authentication on the send connector RegardsChinthaka

Better you can use DynDNS if you cantget static IP -http://www.dyndns.com/and you can use FQDN insted of IP address.DynDNS is a freeutility which will auto update the register FQDN with the releavent DHCP IP's...And they also giving MAIL HOPE service , Better you can try this....
