Hi, There was a similar post with installing UM role on Exchange 2010 SP1. Take a look at the following forum. http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en/exchange2010/thread/e9d0867a-af62-49ec-afea-777b8b666b4b When you run the setup choose DVD when it asks for the language pack. Prior to doing so remove the UM role using Programs and Features. Then reinstall the UM and choose DVD when it asks for language pack. Tom, Thank you for your response. I did see that thread and tried the suggestions from there with no success. After some time I did end up getting it to install. The way it installed was to not use the DVD for the install but to go to programs and features Highlight the Microsoft Exchange Server 2010 and select change. It started the installation routine for Exchange. Using this method the settings on the Server Role selection step, where you specify the path to the exchange server installation files was different. Instead of looking at the DVD it looked at the SP1 files on the server. The installation from there went perfect. So I believe the issue was that the installation files it was trying to use were out of date compared to the installed version and it was kicking an error. It’s installed now. ThanksJim

Jim, Thanks for posting your response. I experienced the same thing; trying to install the MS Exchange UM role on an existing Exchange server. After beating my head against the proverbial wall for a few hours, I found this post and was able to install the role using "Programs and Features". Thanks! Dave Dave Schuck
