Problems Deleting, Disabling, Unlinking a GPO.
We have a GPO we're trying to get rid of on a Windows 2003 domain with 3 2003 servers. It's causing some havoc with some conflicting GPOs and we decided we'd go a different route than this GPO. When I removed the link from all OUs, did a replicate now on all the DCs, and did a gpupdate /force, we're still showing the GPO setting rules! We waited a few days and this is still the case, even after removing all objects from the "Security Filtering" area of the GPO and disabling it in the GPO Status! Bear in mind, this has nothing to do with any linked object. This is straight on the GPO in the GPO node. SO! Yesterday, I deleted the GPO entirely. It let me do this. After that, in GPResult reports, it would STILL show the policy in effect, but instead of the name of the policy as the "Winning GPO" it shows it's GUID!!!!! This morning when I came in, the GPO was back in the GPO node again, disabled and unlinked as I had left it prior to the deletion. Attempting to delete it netted me a "The server is unwilling to process the request." error. And these policies are still in effect on users. This is incredibly frustrating. Deleting it should work, and that is such a vague error that I can't really troubleshoot it. Anyone have any help at all? Thanks! Warren Walker
