Problem with search indexer in Exchange 2007 SP1
Setup is one Windows 2008 server with Exchange 2007 SP1, update rollup 3. Had some errors about Search indexing and did a reset according to KB article but I still get the error in the log. Can someone help me find out what's causing it? The error follows: Log Name: ApplicationSource: MSExchange Search IndexerDate: 2008-11-05 11:00:03Event ID: 104Task Category: GeneralLevel: ErrorKeywords: ClassicUser: N/AComputer: MAILSERVER.domain.corpDescription:Exchange Search Indexer failed to enable the Mailbox Database First Storage Group\Mailbox Database (GUID = 18c405cd-f6da-4cd2-bc1e-73d0e259dd1a) after 1 tries. Hi, Which kb that you have referred to? Any other error events in event log, especially on MSExchangeIS, MSExchangeIS Mailbox Store related? Which Client do you use to access mailbox, outlook or OWA? Please check whether WaterMark key exists on Exchange Server, especially on Mailbox Server role. It could be found under: HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Exchange\v8.0\<name of role>. After that, please run ExBPA to have a health scan. Please post the below information that we need for further troubleshooting: 1. Error from ExBPA report. 2. Error event information from Event log. Hi, It was not a kb- it was in the technet libraries http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa995966.aspx I ran "ResetSearchIndex.ps1 [-force] -all" since I only have one database. There are no other errors in Event logs. Main client is Outlook 2007 sp1, but OWA is also available to users outside the office. I do not have a watermark key in the registry. The Exchange BPA Health Check has the following result: - Warning: Circular logging enabled - Info: Application log size - Info: Crash upload logging disabled - Info: Outlook connection range The Event error is the same as in the first post. regards Joakim

Hi, More information share with you. Method#1 1. Please run ' regsvr32 MapiProtocolHandlerStub.dll ' from a command prompt. 2. Restart the exchange search service. 3. Run 'Test-exchangesearch' from a command prompt and then check the issue. Method #2 1. Run 'Installer' from a command prompt. 2. Remove the Microsoft Full Text Indexing Engine. 3. From the E2K7 SP1 dump location run the command 'msiexec /i msfte.msi TARGETDIR="<exchange installation directory" 'Please start Microsoft Exchange Search Indexer and the Microsoft Search (Exchange) services

It tried method #1 first and nothing changed. Then I did method #2 and it seems like it did the trick after a restart. How ever Windows Update installed Update Rollup 4 during the weekend to so it could be that to. Thanks for your help.

I think I was a bit to fast to say it works. :-) The error message in the application log is gone but I still don't have the index catalogs in First Storage group folder and I cannot search in OWA. I get some new Perflib errors in the log about EXDBPC and DAVEXPC (eventid 1000 and 1017) /Joakim
