Problem with many corrupted attachements
Hi Some time ago I had disaster recovery on my sbs 2003 server with exchange role. From some time I observed that some part of attachement (*.doc, *.pdf) that are send to my company or sended from my company have corrupted files. At first I think that could by antivirus or firewall problem that occured while sending or receiving messages. Some of user tells me that attachements, that they had received some time ago, right now are corrupted. I think that problem with attachements is lies in some malfunctions of my exchange server. Has someone of you had similar problem or know how to get back thing to normal ? Thanks for all advices Best regards Keiishi

If the items are corrupt in the mailbox then they are lost, you cannot correct corruption. Your only possible chance of recovery of those items is to recover them from an older backup, probably using a recovery storage group so that you can just get what you need. Although do check through OWA to see if the items are actually corrupt in the mailbox rather than just in Outlook. If it isn't affecting more recent attachments then the problem probably occurred some time ago, perhaps related to the cause of the DR that you have mentioned. The primary reason for corrupt items in my experience is AV on the server scanning something it shouldn't be, so the proper exclusions are not in place. A firewall or something in front of Exchange scanning SMTP traffic can also cause similar problems. Simon.Simon Butler, Exchange MVP Blog | Exchange Resources | In the UK? Hire Me.
