Problem with formatting on a page / sections on a page -- help requested (word 2010)

Someone gave me a sample resume with some formatting that I am not familiar with -- it looks like subpages/sections within a main page. I added an image of the sample resume below. The question is "How can I shrink the sections in the red circle?" I don't seem to be able to manipulate these sections.  I show a portion of page 1 but I need to bring up the content from page 2 into page 1 and remove the white space within the red circle.  I am using Word 2010 on win7.  How can I do this?  I need to shrink the section(s) with the white space to a size like the other sections.

basically, my problem is that I have a section that is split into two columns.  I would like to know if I can retain the two colums as in the image above and then set the rest of the page back to one column?

So I start with one column, then in the same page I have a section with two columns, and then I want to add another section to the same page with just one column again.  Is this doable?  how to do it?

Are you sure it isn't a table with merged cells? If you are: you can insert continuous section breaks, and set the number of columns for each section individually.

I figured it out.  I typed various lines/rows of text in paragraph form.  I place the cursor at the beginning of a particular paragraph and then Insert two columns.  That makes that particular paragraph its own section and splits it into two columns while the remaining paragraphs before and after occupy one column on the same page.  I can go to another paragraph and do the same thing and turn that paragraph into its own section of two (or more columns).   Then I can delete the fake content and put in my desired content.  Problem solved.
