Problem with exchange monitor or cluster...
I'm not really sure, I just started a job with a company and I'm trying to untangle their exchange organization. It's all 2003. Recently, I've been receiving emails every half hour that say: Subject: Exchange Queue Health (excha) - Unexpected error The following unexpected errors occurred: Failed to execute test. Distributed collectors data cannot be retrieved from the database. The database may be temporarily inaccessible. Test Started: 7/26/2010 4:01:51 PM Test Finished: 7/26/2010 4:01:51 PM I have no idea what's generating these. EXCHA is part of a cluster with 2 groups, ExchA and ExchB. Exchange1 and Exchange2 make up exchA and Exchange3 and Exchange4 make up ExchB. I'd like to track down the source of the emails and stop them but I'm not sure where to even start. Any ideas? thanks!

So it looks like by the look of the error it is the exchange queues that are the problem here. There may be a backup in the queue that is triggering an alert to be sent. SO i would look there first. As for what is causing the alert in exchange 2003 there was a monitoring and status feature built in 2003. Here is a link on how to configure it which should help you understand it if it is already configured. http://www.msexchange.org/tutorials/The_Exchange_Monitoring_and_Status_Tool.html Please remember to click Mark as Answer on the post that helps you, and to click Unmark as Answer if a marked post does not actually answer your question. I agree with Scott. That is mostly likely the case.Mark Morowczynski|MCT| MCSE 2003:Messaging, Security|MCITP:EMA 2K7,EDA Win 7,ES,SA,EA|MCTS:Windows Mobile Admin|Security+|http://almostdailytech.com

Yeah I tried that, I even disabled monitoring on those two servers but these emails keep popping up. All the queues are in good shape, nothing clogged up at all.

Is there anything in the “Notifications” folder? Which server generated this message? Please check the message headerJames Luo TechNet Subscriber Support (http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/subscriptions/ms788697.aspx) If you have any feedback on our support, please contact tngfb@microsoft.com

Ok, I took a closer look at the headers and found the culprit. Not sure what program is doing it but it's a monitoring server. I see some Qwest software on it but I'm not sure what else is running. thanks all!

Yes, apparently after some more digging, there's a solarwinds install no one knew about. That's what I believe is doing it though I can't get into the machine yet.
