I am running Exchange 2003 with OWA on a frontend server and the datgase store on a clustered backend server(Active/Passive). All servers are running windows servewr 2003 32 bit SP2. I have been trying to get OWA set up so that the users can change their password through there. I have followed the instructions fore setting up the Iisadmpwd virtual directory on the frontend server and the registry changes on all three servers. I get the button in the options screen that says change password. When I click on the button i get an error message that pops up and says that the page can not be found. It also gives an erreor 404 file or directory can not be found. One thing that is different about my setup is that the webite is not in the default website for the server. The admin that set this up put in in a different site for some reason. We had problems getting OMA and Active Sync to work there but were able to get them to work by using the System Manager to create the virtual Directories. This did not help for the password change. Has anyone else run into this problem or can point me to what to check? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Jrussell97

It sounds like your requests for IISADMPWD are going to a different web site on the server than the one that contains your Exchange VDir. Hi, Agree with Lee. You have to create the IISadmpwd virtual directory into the same web site as Exchange. When clicking the "Change Password" button, OWA will try to open directory "IISADmpwd\aexp2.asp" from the its web site. Your IISADmpwd is on another web site, So OWA cannot find the directory. Thanks to both of you for the suggestion but the virtual directory for iisadmpwd is in the same website that is used for exchange. It is the only website that is active on the server. It is just not in the "default" website. Everything else is working except the change password feature. That includes e-mail,OMA and active sync. The admin at our sister company has this working and his OWA was set up the same way by the same person. He had a consultant come to fix this but he does not know what was done and the consultant is no longer available. I have run through everything I could find on the web to check this out. I was hoping that someone here may know the answer. I know that this is not a common scenario because the website for OWA normally is set up in the default site. If no one has an answer thats OK. Okay, thanks. One thing you might check is to have a look in the Web Service Extensions container in IIS Manager. Make sure that Active Server Pages is set to Allow. Have it Denied can cause a confusing 404 Not Found error when you try to access an .asp page. Yes I can see the file aexp2b.asp in the directory.

I can right click on the directory and select Browse. When I do it launches the log in screen. But if I try to log in it gives me the 404 error.

Okay, thanks. From this, I can tell that this site is another Exchange Virtual Server created in ESM, rather than IIS. IIS would not have chosen the ID W3SVC100 (it creates random IDs), and also the /Exchange VDir is not used to access the store. Adding extra content (even an IISADMPWD VDir) into an Exchange Virtual Server is definitely going to be tricky, since there are all kinds of ISAPI filters running on it. However, the exchweb VDir works (no doubt OWA makes provision for this), so I think it may be possible. The first thing I would check is to look at the IISADMPWD VDir again, and make sure that it has not inherited the wildcard application mapping from the site level (which it probably has). Click the configuration button (assuming it's not greyed out), and see if there is a wildcard mapping to davex.dll. Lee, I checked the wildcard mapping and the only one there is c:\program files\exchsvr\bin\exprox.dll. I originally set this up using IIS and when it did not work I tried using the ESM because that is what it took to get OMA and Active Sync working. I think exprox is used on an FE server to communicate with a BE server. Is this a FE server? Exprox's job is to proxy your requests to the BE server, and so it is probably asking the BE server for the contents of a mailbox called iisadmpwd. If I'm right, you'll see requests for /exchange/iisadmpwd in the BE server's iis logs, and the BE server returns a 404, which is then proxied back to the user. Glad it's fixed. This illustrates nicely how the Exchange Virtual Servers are a bit different to normal IIS sites. On a normal server, it will have the davex.dll wildcard mapping, which must be removed from any vdir you add underneath it (otherwise it will think the user is looking for a mailbox with the vdir name); and on an FE server, it will have the exprox.dll mapping.
