Problem with Installing Exchange 2007
I have not been able to find support for this one anywhere. Here is the run down. -We are attempting to install exchange 2007 on server 2003 x64 -we are currently utilizing an active directory schema that has been passed down a few times -the AD started on server 2000 -the AD then got passed over to SBS 2003 x86 -SBS 2003 attempted to install exchange 2003 as part of the SBS bundle. It only installed up to SP1 and we never made it functional. -The AD was then passed on to a true server 2003 x64 environment and the functional level of the ADwas raised to 2003. -when werun the best practices analyzer it comes back and says that we have Exchange 2003 sp1 installed on our DC (the same machine I am trying to put exchange 07 on) -The SBS server that had exchange 2003 no longer exists -The analyzer says that I either have to uninstall exchange 03 or upgrade it to sp2. But, again, the machine that had exchange 03 is gone. So here is my question. Is there a way to edit the schema using ADSIedit and remove any evidence or history that exchange 03 was ever present? You should remove your Exchange 2003 completely Check this article http://support.microsoft.com/kb/273478/en-us Deli

Normally, this would be my first course of action. But this can't be done for a few reasons. - the DC is a x64 machine. The version of exchange 03 that we have is x86. It cannot be installed onto the server. - The exchange 2003 installation took place on an SBS machine (not our current DC)that had the same host name as our current DC. The SBS machine is no longer in service. However, exchange 07 thinks that exchange 03 was installed on the current DC. RobbiMount

RobbiMount, You can install Microsoft Virtual PC 2007 64 Bit version to temporarily host the exchange 2003 x86 server for removal only, then remove once the clean up steps that Deli pointed out have been completed and best practice analyzer confirms a clean environment. I do not recommend running this as a production environment, but purelyfor clean up. Let us know how that worked out.

Or you can run the removal on a member server if you have one. Not sure if you can run this on Windows XP but you can try Deli

you can run the Virtual PC 2007 on XP, it free and an even better solution, as you no longer have to install applications to a DOmain Controller. Great Call Deli. Frm the XP machine, you can then create a virtual machine, and continue the member server build and exchange removal.
