Problem with Dictionary/Spellchecker in Word 2013

I am unable to confine the spellchecker to UK English. For example it does not pick up color as a mistake when using the UK English Dictionary, even if I highlight the word and specify UK English as the language It picks up colour correctly as a mistake when I am using the US English dictionary. This important when writing business letters to UK companies. Can anyone help, please?

Hi,

Based on my test, if we want to use UK English Dictionary as spell checker, we need to set 2 options. Please see the images:

1) File=>Option=>language=> Choose English(UK) and set as default

2) Review tab=>language=>Set proofing language=>Choose English(UK) and set as default

Hope it's helpful.

Hi George,

Many thanks for your response. I have already done everything you suggest, even to the extent of uninstalling the US Dictionary, but it hasn't solved the issue. Is it possible to access the custom.dic to see if the US spellings have been added?

Thanks.

Regards.

Hi,

Please try to only select the Custom.dic and assign the English(UK) to test.

Hope it's helpful.

Hi,

Thanks again for your reply.

I have found that the problem is deeper than UK/US English.

If, for instance, I type "kjssye" it doesn't get highlighted as a spelling error. Even if I manually select Spellchecker, it doesn't pick it up.

I seem to be having other issues too, such as screen calibration won't save and I have to re do it every time I power up. I am beginning to think it is a Windows 10 issue.

  • Change your region to UK(English)

Hi George,

Thank you for your continued support.

I have checked the settings and found the region was US. I have changed it to UK and also I noticed that the UK English language pack wasn't installed in the W10 upgrade, so I have done that now and retested in Word.

It all seems to be working now.

I also checked my other laptop which I have just upgraded to W10 and had to change the region and download the UK English language pack.

Thanks for your help and advice, it's much appreciated.

Regards.
