Problem sending email to Internet
I have installed Exchange 2010 Server and am able to send email to other mailboxes on the server, but when I try and send to Internet addreses, I'm having what I think are DNS issues. We have a network with a DC, SharePoint Server, SQL Server and Exchange box. The DNS server is on the DC, and we also have registered our SharePoint and Exchange Server with GoDaddy for users who access both through the Internet. We have an MX record at GoDaddy for the Exchange server. Here's the scenario: I have an SMTP send connector on the Exchange Server configured to send to all addresses, with the option to use MX records to route mail and it's set to use External DNS Lookup on the transport server associated with it. On the associated transport server, I have the External DNS lookup set to use our external DNS server at GoDaddy. When I try and send a message from the network to an Internet address, I get the error <!-- /* Font Definitions */ @font-face {font-family:Calibri; panose-1:2 15 5 2 2 2 4 3 2 4; mso-font-charset:0; mso-generic-font-family:swiss; mso-font-pitch:variable; mso-font-signature:-520092929 1073786111 9 0 415 0;} @font-face {font-family:Tahoma; panose-1:2 11 6 4 3 5 4 4 2 4; mso-font-charset:0; mso-generic-font-family:swiss; mso-font-pitch:variable; mso-font-signature:-520081665 -1073717157 41 0 66047 0;} /* Style Definitions */ p.MsoNormal, li.MsoNormal, div.MsoNormal {mso-style-unhide:no; mso-style-qformat:yes; mso-style-parent:""; margin:0in; margin-bottom:.0001pt; mso-pagination:widow-orphan; font-size:11.0pt; font-family:"Calibri","sans-serif"; mso-ascii-font-family:Calibri; mso-ascii-theme-font:minor-latin; mso-fareast-font-family:Calibri; mso-fareast-theme-font:minor-latin; mso-hansi-font-family:Calibri; mso-hansi-theme-font:minor-latin; mso-bidi-font-family:"Times New Roman"; mso-bidi-theme-font:minor-bidi;} .MsoChpDefault {mso-style-type:export-only; mso-default-props:yes; font-family:"Calibri","sans-serif"; mso-ascii-font-family:Calibri; mso-ascii-theme-font:minor-latin; mso-fareast-font-family:Calibri; mso-fareast-theme-font:minor-latin; mso-hansi-font-family:Calibri; mso-hansi-theme-font:minor-latin; mso-bidi-font-family:"Times New Roman"; mso-bidi-theme-font:minor-bidi;} @page WordSection1 {size:8.5in 11.0in; margin:1.0in 1.0in 1.0in 1.0in; mso-header-margin:.5in; mso-footer-margin:.5in; mso-paper-source:0;} div.WordSection1 {page:WordSection1;} --> #554 5.4.4 SMTPSEND.DNS.NonExistentDomain; nonexistent domain ## Now I know we have registered the domain with GoDaddy and have an MX record there, and the Send Connector points to the Internet, with the Transport Server specifying the GoDaddy name servers, so what am I missing? Is there another hop between the HUB and the internet? Curious as to why you have the "use external DNS lookup settings" enabled? Why not just use the DNS servers associated with your network card? Try unchecking that box, restart the transport service, run a ipconfig /flushdns, and try again.Tim Harrington - Catapult Systems - http://HowDoUC.blogspot.com
