Problem in changing to native mode Exchange.
Dear all, My target is to change our Exchange mode from Mixed to Native. I had removed all Exchange 5.5 serversfrom our organization. I’m going to remove Exchange SRS. According to Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 Deplyment Guide (http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb125074(EXCHG.65).aspx) at page 102 on topic “How to Remove Exchange SRS”, in the step (2), we need to connect the each SRSs with “Exchange 5.5 Administrator program” and delete “Directory Replication Connectors” manually, then allow time for change to effective by “Config CAs”. Unfortunately, two Exchange SRSs were failed to connect. One is due the SRS database was corrupted. I tried to repair the SRS.edu, but still cannot start SRS service properly. The 2nd one is that the Exchange 2000 server was failed to boot due to HDD failure. The Exchange 2000 was not a production one, there was no user mailbox and could be discarded [This is my other question. I failed to remove the Exchange 2000 server due to other reason] May I know if it is safe to skip the two failed servers on manually removing the Directory Replication connectors, and do the next step – removing each SRS by Exchange System Manager, Tools, click Site Replication Services, and click Delete for all SRSs. Thank you very much for your attention.

Hi, To remove SRS and change Exchange Mode from Mixed to Native, please also refer to the following article: The Change Mode button is unavailable in the Organization Properties dialog box after you upgrade Exchange Server 5.5 Service Pack 3 to Exchange 2000 Server or to Exchange Server 2003 Thanks.Novak Wu-MSFT

Thank you, but the KB http://support.microsoft.com/kb/329606 cannot solve the problem I experienced. As I described and mentioned, the SRS is dead due to SRS database corrupted. I could not start the Exchange Server 5.5 Exchange Server Administrator program connecting to the Exchange 2000 server. If I try, the error prompt is "Exchange server computer does not respond. ID no: DS_E_COMMUNICATIONS_PROBLEM". Therfore, I cannot follow KB329606 - "To delete each directory replication connector, and then wait for Active Directory replication to occur". It is exactly the reason I asked if it is possible to skip the delete each directory replication connector, and jimp to do the delete Site Replication Services by ESM. Regards, HYHO

Hi, Please launch ADSI Edit tool and expanded the Configuration naming context > Services > expand Microsoft Exchange > organization folder > Administrative groups > and then expand your Administrative group. Under Administrative group, clicked once on the CN=Directory Replication and then remove all Directory Replication on the right panel. Then, please repeat above steps to remove all Directory Replication for all other Administrative Groups. If SRS still cannot be removed, please also refer to the Method 3 from the link below to remove SRS from AD. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/260781 Hope this helps.Novak Wu-MSFT
