Problem deplying second exchange 2010 server on a new Site/RODC same domain.
I'm trying to deploy another exchange 2010 server on a new site with new Read only Domain Controller. However, the installation process stuck at the beginning of Step 4: Install Microsoft Exchange at "Microsoft Exchange Server 2010 Setup initializing....." screen. It crashed after 15 minutes and when I checked ExchangeSetup.txt under C:\ExchangeSetupLogs it seem like stuck at "Setup is choosing a local domain controller...." However, if I demoted the new Read only DC the setup initializing works fine right after and requesting to locate a domain controller. I did test and check the event log on the new Read only DC and everything seems working fine and replicating with other DCs. The new Sites is on a completely new subnet range and I ran dcdiag on it and passed all testes except the advertising and getting warning about RODC has not finished promoting to be a GC. We have total of 9 DCs including the new one and 3 are writable DCs. Thanks first for all suggestions!!

Hi Could you confirm if you have other DCs (GCs) in this new site other than the RODC? You need a writable DC/GC in every site. Cheers, Steve

Hello, Please check whether there are any value set for the default key under: HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Netlogon\Parameters Would you provide the full error message about the setup. Did it also log as: "Setup encountered a problem while validating the state of Active Directory" "Could not find any Global Catalog in forest..? Thanks, Simon

Hi You cannot install Exchange 2010 in a site that has only RODCs - this is not supported: "In each Active Directory site where you plan to install Exchange 2010, you must have at least one writeable domain controller ..." http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa996719.aspx You will have to install another DC/GC in the site where you want to install the Exchange server or re-dcpromo one of the RODCs you already have there. Like Steve wrote, you need to have a writeable DC/GC in the site you are going to install Exchange into That a requirement you need to fulfil Jonas Andersson | Microsoft Community Contributor Award 2011 | MCITP: EMA 2007/2010 | Blog: http://www.testlabs.se/blog | Follow me on twitter: jonand82
