Preventing Users from sending Email to itself in Exchange 2010
We have Exchange 2010 setup at our office. What we want is to block user from sending email to himself or In another scenario, if user sends an email to group and he is a part of that group, he should not receive the email, what settings should be made in order to achieve this?

As far as I know, the only way to do that is to have the user expand the DL from the client and have them remove themselves. Why do you want to block users from sending to themselves?

Because users are complaining that when they email to a distribution group, he/she also get an email if he/she is a part of that particular distribution group. i want to restrict user from receiving an email from a distribution group if he/she has forwarded an email to that group and he/she is also a part of that distribution group.

@Riaz - This is expected. If some users are not happy with this, ask them to create a client side rule to delete or move the message. If this is for may clients, then use a GPO (Office admx) to deploy this your clients. Sukh

@Sukh.. actually i have studied over the web and they were talking about SPF (Sender Policy Framework). do you have any idea about that?

SPF records help prevent email spoofing. They have nothing to do with this. AFAIK you cannot change the behavior. This is by design. Have them delete the message if they don't want it. Mike Crowley Check out My Blog!

@Riaz - SPF will not work to meet your requirements. As pointed out by Mike this is to combat spam. Your scenario is not SPAM related. It is normal behaviour. SPF info -http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sender_Policy_Framework As mentioned before, why not create client side rules. Sukh

Hello, You can only set a Outlook rule. If it detect the email is from the user himself, move it to the deleted items folder. Thanks, Simon

@Riaz 1. Solutions have been give above. Outlook client side rules. 2. If you want a really messy Exchange (Whihc I did not want to mention) create transport rules, but you will have one for each user. THIS IS NOT BEST PRACTISE AND SHOULD NOT BE USED FOR THIS. Sukh

@Sukh i was looking for alternative solution. anyways thanks a lot for your support. i would prefer to have a client side rule instead of having messy exchange :)
